Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A brush belt including a base member having a first side with a traction surface and a second side opposite the first side defining a mounting surface presenting a first edge and a second edge and having a longitudinal axis therebetween and parallel thereto and a plurality of bristles coupled to the mounting surface and arranged in a first section of bristles and a second section of bristles, the bristles of the first section each having a first diameter and the bristles of the second section each having a second diameter that is different than the first diameter. The first section abuts the second section.

What is claimed is: 1. A brush belt comprising: a base member having a first side with a traction surface and a second side opposite the first side defining a mounting surface presenting a first edge and a second edge and having a longitudinal axis therebetween and parallel thereto; a first section of bristles coupled to the mounting surface, the first section of bristles extending parallel to the longitudinal axis, each bristle of the first section of bristles including a first end proximal to the mounting surface and a second end distal thereto and having a first cross-sectional dimension at the second end; and a second section of bristles coupled to the mounting surface, the second section of bristles extending parallel to the longitudinal axis, each bristle of the second section of bristles including a first end proximal to the mounting surface and a second end distal thereto and having a second cross-sectional dimension at the second end; a third section of bristles coupled to the mounting surface, the third section of bristles extending parallel to the longitudinal axis and being positioned between the first section of bristles and the second section of bristles, each bristle of the third section of bristles including a first end proximal to the mounting surface and a second end distal thereto and having a third cross-sectional dimension at the second end; wherein the third cross-sectional dimension is different than the first cross-sectional dimension and different than the second cross-sectional dimension. 2. The brush belt of claim 1 , wherein the bristles of the first section of bristles, second section of bristles, and third section of bristles are circular in cross section, wherein the first cross-sectional dimension is a first diameter, the second cross-sectional dimension is a second diameter, and the third cross-sectional dimension is a third diameter. 3. The brush belt of claim 1 , wherein the first cross-sectional dimension and the second cross-sectional dimension are substantially the same and greater than the third-cross-sectional dimension. 4. The brush belt of claim 1 , wherein first section of bristles is positioned nearer to the first edge than to the second edge and the second section of bristles is positioned nearer to the second edge than to the first edge. 5. The brush belt of claim 1 , wherein the first cross-sectional dimensions of the bristles of the first section of bristles collectively decrease from the first edge to the third section, and the second cross-sectional dimensions of the bristles of the second section of bristles collectively decrease from the second edge to the third section of bristles. 6. A brush belt comprising: a base member having first side with a traction surface and a second side opposite the first side defining a mounting surface presenting a first edge and a second edge and having a longitudinal axis therebetween and parallel thereto; a first section of bristles coupled to the mounting surface and extending between the first edge and the second edge of the mounting surface, bristles of the first section of bristles each including a first end coupled to the mounting surface, a second end spaced apart from the mounting surface, and a first cross-sectional dimension at the second end; and a second section of bristles coupled to the mounting surface and extending between the first edge and the second edge of the mounting surface, the second section of bristles abutting the first section of bristles, bristles of the second section of bristles each including a first end coupled to the mounting surface, a second end spaced apart from the mounting surface, and a second cross-sectional dimension at the second end; wherein the second cross-sectional dimension is different than the first cross-sectional dimension. 7. The brush belt of claim 6 , wherein the second cross-sectional dimension is 5% to 90% of the first cross-sectional dimension. 8. The brush belt of claim 6 , wherein the first section of bristles is one of a plurality of first sections of bristles and the second section of bristles is one of a plurality of second sections of bristles, wherein the plurality of first sections of bristles and the plurality of second sections of bristles alternate in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the mounting surface. 9. The brush belt of claim 8 , wherein within each first section of the plurality of first sections of bristles, the first cross-sectional dimension of the bristles continuously decreases from a center to opposite edges. 10. The brush belt of claim 6 , wherein within the first section of bristles, the first cross-sectional dimensions of the bristles continuously decrease from a center to opposite edges. 11. The brush belt of claim 6 , wherein the second cross-sectional dimension of the bristles of the first section of bristles is 10% to 95% greater than the second cross-sectional dimension of the bristles of the second section of bristles. 12. A brush belt comprising: a base member having a first side with a traction surface and a second side opposite the first side defining a mounting surface presenting a first edge and a second edge and having a longitudinal axis therebetween and parallel thereto; and a plurality of bristles coupled to the mounting surface and arranged in a first section of bristles and a second section of bristles, the bristles of the first section of bristles each having a first diameter and the bristles of the second section of bristles each having a second diameter that is different than the first diameter, wherein the first section of bristles abuts the second section of bristles. 13. The brush belt of claim 12 , wherein the second diameter is 5% to 90% of the first diameter. 14. The brush belt of claim 12 , wherein the second section of bristles is positioned on a first side of the first section of bristles and a third section of bristles is positioned on a second, opposite side of the first section of bristles, the third section of bristles having a third diameter. 15. The brush belt of claim 14 , wherein the second diameters of the bristles of the second section of bristles collectively decrease from the first edge of the mounting surface to the first section of bristles, and the third diameters of the bristles of the third section of bristles collectively decrease from the second edge of the mounting surface to the first section of bristles. 16. The brush belt of claim 12 , wherein the first section of bristles is one of a plurality of first sections of bristles and the second section of bristles is one of a plurality of second sections of bristles, each first section of the plurality of first sections of bristles and the plurality of second sections of bristles having a first side positioned at the first edge of the mounting surface and a second side positioned at the second edge of the mounting surface. 17. The brush belt of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of first sections of bristles and the plurality of second sections of bristles alternate in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the mounting surface. 18. The brush belt of claim 12 , wherein within the first section of bristles, the first diameter of the bristles continuously decrease from a center to opposite edges.
