Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A vehicle comprises: a dispenser for a liquid, the dispenser comprising an outlet for the liquid; and a source of ultraviolet light disposed to emit the ultraviolet light onto the outlet of the dispenser. The dispenser further comprises a first position and a second position that is different than the first position. The outlet of the dispenser is disposed closer to the source of ultraviolet light when the dispenser is in the second position than when the dispenser is in the first position. The vehicle comprises a controller in communication with the source of the ultraviolet light. The controller causes the source of ultraviolet light to emit the ultraviolet light when the dispenser is in the second position but not when the dispenser is in the first position.

What is claimed is: 1. A liquid dispensing apparatus for a vehicle comprising: a dispenser comprising (i) an outlet for a liquid, (ii) a main body comprising an outer surface, (iii) a conduit extending through the main body, the conduit being in liquid communication with the outlet, (iv) a first position and (v) a second position that is different than the first position; a source of ultraviolet light disposed to emit the ultraviolet light onto the outlet of the dispenser; and a housing that form a chamber in which the outlet of the dispenser is disposed when the dispenser is in the second position, the housing comprising a movable top wall that (i) extends over the main body the dispenser, when the dispenser is in the second position, and (ii) forms part of the chamber in which the outlet of the dispenser is disposed when the dispenser is in the second position, wherein, the source of the ultraviolet light is disposed to emit the ultraviolet light into the chamber, and wherein, the outlet of the dispenser is disposed closer to the source of the ultraviolet light when the dispenser is in the second position than when the dispenser is in the first position. 2. The liquid dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the dispenser is in position to dispense the liquid when the dispenser is in the first position. 3. The liquid dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein in the second position, the outlet of the dispenser is inaccessible from an environment external to the liquid dispensing apparatus. 4. The liquid dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the dispenser can move to, from, and between the first position and the second position. 5. The liquid dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the housing comprises a surface forming at least part of the chamber, and the surface reflects the ultraviolet light that the source of the ultraviolet light emits. 6. The liquid dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the source of the ultraviolet light is configured to emit the ultraviolet light onto an entirety of the outer surface of the main body of the dispenser. 7. The liquid dispensing apparatus of claim 1 further comprising: a sensor configured to output data that changes as a function of whether the dispenser is in the second position. 8. The liquid dispensing apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the dispenser is configured to be in liquid communication with a source of the liquid that is disposed within the vehicle. 9. A vehicle comprising: a center console; a dispenser for a liquid, the dispenser comprising (i) an outlet for the liquid, (ii) a first position, and (iii) a second position that is different than the first position; a housing disposed at the center console, the housing comprising a chamber in which the outlet of the dispenser is disposed when the dispenser is in the second position; and a source of ultraviolet light disposed to emit the ultraviolet light into the chamber and onto the outlet of the dispenser when the dispenser is in the second position. 10. The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the outlet of the dispenser is disposed closer to the source of the ultraviolet light when the dispenser is in the second position than when the dispenser is in the first position. 11. The vehicle of claim 9 further comprising: a controller in communication with the source of the ultraviolet light, the controller causing the source of ultraviolet light to emit the ultraviolet light when the dispenser is in the second position but not when the dispenser is in the first position. 12. The vehicle of claim 11 further comprising: a sensor in communication with the controller, the sensor configured to output data that changes as a function of whether the dispenser is in the second position; wherein, the controller causes the source of the ultraviolet light to emit the ultraviolet light when the sensor outputs data indicative that the dispenser is in the second position. 13. The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the dispenser can move to, from, and between the first position and the second position. 14. The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the housing comprises a surface forming at least part of the chamber, and the surface reflects the ultraviolet light that the source of the ultraviolet light emits. 15. The vehicle of claim 9 further comprising: a source of the liquid in liquid communication with the dispenser. 16. The vehicle of claim 15 , wherein the vehicle generates the liquid that the dispenser dispenses. 17. The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the dispenser is in position to dispense the liquid when the dispenser is in the first position. 18. The vehicle of claim 9 , wherein the dispenser further comprises a main body and a conduit extending through the main body, the main body comprising an outer surface, and the conduit being in liquid communication with the outlet; the housing comprises a movable top wall that (i) extends over the main body of the dispenser, when the dispenser is in the second position, and (ii) forms part of the chamber in which the outlet of the dispenser is disposed when the dispenser is in the second position; and the source of the ultraviolet light is configured to emit the ultraviolet light onto an entirety of the outer surface of the main body of the dispenser. 19. A vehicle comprising: a dispenser comprising (i) an outlet for a liquid, (ii) a main body comprising an outer surface, (iii) a conduit extending through the main body, the conduit being in liquid communication with the outlet, (iv) a first position, and (v) a second position that is different than the first position; a source of ultraviolet light disposed to emit the ultraviolet light onto the outlet of the dispenser; and a housing that forms a chamber in which the outlet of the dispenser is disposed when the dispenser is in the second position, the housing comprising a movable top wall that (i) extends over the main body of the dispenser, when the dispenser is in the second position, and (ii) forms part of the chamber in which the outlet of the dispenser is disposed when the dispenser is in the second position, wherein, the source of the ultraviolet light is disposed to emit the ultraviolet light into the chamber, and wherein, the outlet of the dispenser is disposed closer to the source of the ultraviolet light when the dispenser is in the second position than when the dispenser is in the first position. 20. The vehicle of claim 19 further comprising: a center console, wherein, the housing is disposed at the center console.
