What is claimed is: 1. A brace for use with an ankle having first and second opposing sides, comprising: a first cuff positionable on the first side of the ankle, the first cuff having a top end and a bottom end; a second cuff positionable on the second side of the ankle, the second cuff having a top end and a bottom end, each of the first and second cuffs being configured to rest against an outside portions of a wearer's ankle and the first and second cuffs including a rigid or substantially rigid member that is configured to stabilize the wearer's ankle; one or more straps that are configured to wrap around the first cuff and the second cuff to secure the brace to the wearer's ankle; a reel based closure device that is operably coupled with a lace or cable, the reel based closure device being operable to tension the lace or cable and thereby tighten the brace about the wearer's ankle; and one or more guides that are coupled with the one or more straps and with the first cuff or second cuff, the one or more guides being configured to guide or route the lace or cable between the one or more straps and the first cuff or second cuff; wherein the bottom end of the first cuff is coupled with the bottom end of the second cuff by a member; and wherein the member is positioned under a foot of the wearer when the brace is fitted about the wearer's ankle. 2. The brace of claim 1 , further comprising one or more guides that are coupled with the first cuff or the second cuff, the one or more guides being configured to guide or route the lace or cable about a path along the brace. 3. The brace of claim 1 , wherein the first cuff and/or second cuff include a resilient foam or air filled member that is configured to mold to and form a comfortable fitting against the wearer's ankle. 4. The brace of claim 1 , wherein the member is positionable under the wearer's foot so that a heel of the foot is exposed when the brace is fitted about the ankle. 5. The brace of claim 1 , wherein the one or more straps include a quick release member that allows the one or more straps to be coupled with the first cuff or second cuff to secure the brace against the ankle. 6. The brace of claim 5 , wherein the quick release member is a hook and loop fastener. 7. The brace of claim 1 , wherein the lace or cable has a substantially parallel path extending across at least a portion of the brace. 8. An ankle brace comprising: a first cuff positionable on a first side of an ankle of a wearer, the first cuff having a top end and a bottom end; a second cuff positionable on a second side of the ankle of the wearer, the second cuff having a top end and a bottom end; at least one strap that is configured to wrap around the first cuff and the second cuff to secure the brace to the ankle; a reel based closure device that is operable to tension a lace or cable and thereby tighten the brace about the ankle; and one or more guides that are coupled with the at least one strap and with the first cuff or second cuff, the one or more guides being configured to guide or route the lace or cable between the at least one strap and the first cuff or second cuff; wherein the bottom end of the first cuff is coupled with the bottom end of the second cuff by a member that is positionable under a foot of the wearer. 9. The ankle brace of claim 8 , further comprising a rigid or substantially rigid member that is configured to stabilize the ankle. 10. The ankle brace of claim 9 , further comprising a resilient member on an inside of the ankle brace, the resilient member being configured to mold to the ankle. 11. The ankle brace of claim 10 , further comprising a resilient foam or air filled member that is configured to mold to and form a comfortable fitting against the ankle. 12. The ankle brace of claim 8 , wherein the member is positionable under the foot so that a heel of the foot is exposed when the ankle brace is fitted about the ankle. 13. The ankle brace of claim 8 , further comprising one or more guides that are coupled with the first cuff or the second cuff, the one or more guides being configured to guide or route the lace or cable about a path along the ankle brace. 14. The ankle brace of claim 8 , wherein the at least one strap includes a quick release member that allows the at least one strap to be coupled with the first cuff or second cuff to secure the ankle brace to the ankle. 15. The ankle brace of claim 14 , wherein the quick release member is a hook and loop fastener. 16. The ankle brace of claim 8 , wherein the lace or cable has a substantially parallel path extending across at least a portion of the ankle brace.
