Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An interactive control unit is disclosed. The interactive control unit includes an interactive touchscreen display, an interface configured to couple the control unit to a surgical hub, a processor, and a memory coupled to the processor. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor to receive input commands from the interactive touchscreen display located inside a sterile field and transmit the input commands to the surgical hub to control devices coupled to the surgical hub located outside the sterile field.

The invention claimed is: 1. A modular surgical system, comprising: a display; a modular device; and a modular hub comprising a situational awareness module, wherein the modular hub is operably coupled to the display and the modular device, and wherein the modular hub is configured to: receive first data associated with a patient from a first data source; receive second data from the modular device; determine, via the situational awareness module, patient information associated with the patient, based, at least in part, on the received first data and the received second data; determine, via the situational awareness module, surgical information associated with the patient based, at least in part, on the received first data and the received second data; and populate the display with the determined patient information and determined surgical information. 2. The modular surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the surgical information associated with the patient comprises steps associated with a surgical procedure to be performed on the patient. 3. The modular surgical system of claim 2 , wherein the modular hub is further configured to derive what step of the surgical procedure is being performed based on the received second data. 4. The modular surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the modular device comprises a ventilator, and where the received second data comprises ventilator data. 5. The modular surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the modular device comprises a medical imaging device configured to capture a livestream from a surgical site, and where the received second data comprises medical imaging device data extracted from the livestream. 6. The modular surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the modular device comprises a surgical instrument, and wherein the received second data comprises an operation of the surgical instrument. 7. The modular surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the modular hub is further configured to provide prompts on the display based on the received data. 8. The modular surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the modular hub comprises a storage device, and wherein the received first data is temporarily stored on the storage device. 9. The modular surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the first data source comprises an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and wherein the received first data comprises an anonymous data file. 10. The modular surgical system of claim 1 , wherein the surgical information associated with the patient comprises a type of tissue to be operated on. 11. The modular surgical system of claim 5 , wherein the modular hub is configured to: display the livestream on the display; and overlay the determined surgical information on the displayed livestream. 12. A modular surgical system, comprising: a display; a modular device; and a modular hub comprising a situational awareness module, wherein the modular hub is operably coupled to the display, the modular device, and a cloud-based system, and wherein the modular hub is configured to: receive first data associated with a patient from a first data source; receive second data from the modular device; infer, via the situational awareness module, patient information associated with the patient, based, at least in part, on the received first data and the received second data; infer, via the situational awareness module, surgical information associated with the patient based, at least in part, on the received first data and the received second data; and populate the display with the inferred patient information and inferred surgical information. 13. The modular surgical system of claim 12 , wherein the surgical information associated with the patient comprises steps associated with a surgical procedure to be performed on the patient. 14. The modular surgical system of claim 13 , wherein the modular hub is further configured to derive what step of the surgical procedure is being performed based on the received second data. 15. The modular surgical system of claim 12 , wherein the modular device comprises a ventilator, and where the received second data comprises ventilator data. 16. The modular surgical system of claim 12 , wherein the modular device comprises a medical imaging device configured to capture a livestream of a surgical site, and where the received second data comprises medical imaging device data extracted from the livestream. 17. The modular surgical system of claim 12 , wherein the modular device comprises a surgical instrument, and wherein the received second data comprises an operation of the surgical instrument. 18. A modular surgical system, comprising: a display; a modular device; and a modular hub comprising a situational awareness module, wherein the modular hub is operably coupled to the display and the modular device, and wherein the modular hub is configured to: receive first data associated with a patient from a plurality of data sources; receive second data from the modular device; derive, via the situational awareness module, patient information associated with the patient, based, at least in part, on the received first data and the received second data; continually derive, via the situational awareness module, surgical information associated with a surgical procedure to be performed on the patient during the course of the surgical procedure based, at least in part, on the received first data and the received second data; and populate the display with the derived patient information and derived surgical information. 19. The modular surgical system of claim 18 , wherein the surgical information associated with the surgical procedure comprises steps associated with the surgical procedure. 20. The modular surgical system of claim 19 , wherein the modular hub is further configured to derive what step of the surgical procedure is being performed based on the received second data. 21. The modular surgical system of claim 18 , wherein the modular device comprises a ventilator, and where the received second data comprises ventilator data. 22. The modular surgical system of claim 18 , wherein the modular device comprises a medical imaging device configured to capture an image frame from a surgical site, and where the received second data comprises medical imaging device data extracted from the image frame.
