Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A coupler for removeable coupling an object to a support. The coupler includes a cover, a ring, and a base. The cover couples to the support. The ring includes a first arm, a second arm, a third arm, a fourth arm, a first stop, and a second stop. Each arm of the ring is formed of a resilient material. The ring is positioned in a cavity of the cover. The base couples to the accessory. The base cooperates with the cover and the ring to couple to the cover and to rotate from a decoupled position to an intermediate position and further to a clocked position.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A base of a coupler configured to releasably couple a provided object to a provided support, the base comprising: a center portion disposed along an axis; a first protrusion that extends a first distance away from the center portion; and a second protrusion that extends a second distance from the center portion, wherein: the first distance is greater than the second distance; the first protrusion is rotatable along a face of a provided arm when the base is rotated in a first rotational direction to a locked position; the second protrusion is rotatable along the face of the provided arm when the base is rotated in the first rotational direction to the locked position; and the first protrusion and the second protrusion are undeformed when the base is rotated in the first rotational direction to the locked position. 2. The base of claim 1 , wherein: the first protrusion and the second protrusion extend from a first end of the center portion; the first end of the center portion is disposed opposite a second end of the center portion along the axis; and the first protrusion and the second protrusion form a slot between a surface that extends from the second end of the center portion and an underside of the first protrusion and the second protrusion. 3. The base of claim 2 , further comprising a plate configured to couple to one of the provided object and the provided support, wherein the surface comprises a surface of the plate that faces away from the one of the provided object and the provided support, and wherein a length of the plate away from the axis is greater than the first distance. 4. The base of claim 1 , wherein the first protrusion and the second protrusion each extend away from the axis from a same axial location along the axis. 5. The base of claim 4 , wherein a radius of the base in a circumferential direction about the axis at the axial location increases from the center portion to a first side of the second protrusion and further increases from a second side of the second protrusion to a first side of the first protrusion, and wherein the second protrusion is disposed in the circumferential direction between the first side of the second protrusion and the second side of the second protrusion. 6. The base of claim 5 , wherein the radius of the base in the circumferential direction about the axis at the axial location continuously increases from the second distance at the second side of the second protrusion to the first distance at the first side of the first protrusion. 7. The base of claim 5 , wherein the radius of the base in the circumferential direction about the axis at the axial location continuously decreases from a second side of the first protrusion opposite the first side of the first protrusion to the center rcgion portion. 8. The base of claim 4 , wherein an angular distance between the first protrusion and the second protrusion is less than 90 degrees. 9. The base of claim 1 , wherein the second protrusion adjoins the first protrusion in a circumferential direction about the axis. 10. The base of claim 9 , wherein the second protrusion adjoins the first protrusion at the second distance away from the axis. 11. The base of claim 1 , further comprising a third protrusion that extends away from the center portion. 12. The base of claim 11 , wherein the third protrusion extends the first distance away from the center portion, and wherein the third protrusion is diametrically positioned about the axis relative to the first protrusion. 13. The base of claim 1 , further comprising a fourth protrusion that extends away from the center portion, wherein the fourth protrusion extends the second distance away from the center portion and is diametrically positioned about the axis relative to the second protrusion. 14. A system comprising: one of an object configured to be coupled to a provided support or a support configured to be coupled to a provided object; and a base coupled to the one of the object or the support, the base comprising: a surface facing away from the one of the object or the support; a center portion disposed along an axis; a first protrusion that extends a first distance away from the center portion; and a second protrusion that extends a second distance away from the center portion, wherein: the first distance is greater than the second distance; the first protrusion and the second protrusion form a slot between the surface and an underside of the first protrusion and the second protrusion; the first protrusion is rotatable along a face of a provided arm upon rotation of the base in a first rotational direction to a locked position; the second protrusion is rotatable along the face of the provided arm upon the rotation of the base in the first rotational direction to the locked position; and the first protrusion and the second protrusion are undeformed by the rotation of the base in the first rotational direction to the locked position. 15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the base further comprises: a third protrusion diametrically positioned about the axis relative to the first protrusion; and a fourth protrusion diametrically positioned about the axis relative to the second protrusion, wherein the third protrusion extends the first distance from the center portion and the fourth protrusion extends the second distance from the center portion. 16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the first protrusion and the second protrusion are disposed continuously along a circumference of the base about the axis at an axial location along the axis from which the first protrusion and the second protrusion extend from the axis. 17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the one of the object or the support comprises a digital video recorder, microphone, or camera. 18. The system of claim 14 , further comprising a ring, wherein: the ring comprises a resilient arm that rotates across the first protrusion and the second protrusion when the base is rotated relative to the ring; a surface of the resilient arm rotates across the first protrusion when the base is rotated to the locked position; after the surface has rotated across the first protrusion, the surface of the resilient arm further rotates across the second protrusion when the base is rotated to the locked position; and the surface of the resilient arm is disposed in a fixed angular location about the axis relative to the base while the base is rotated to the locked position. 19. The system of claim 14 , wherein: the first protrusion protrudes from the center portion within a first angular distance about the axis; the second protrusion protrudes from the center portion within a second angular distance about the axis; and the first angular distance is separate from the second angular distance. 20. The base of claim 1 , wherein: the first protrusion protrudes from the center portion within a first angular distance about the axis; the second protrusion protrudes from the center portion within a second angular distance about the axis; and the first angular distance is separate from the second angular distance.
