Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A targeting system operable to be used with a bow to assist an operator with striking a target with an arrow. The targeting system may comprise a processor, a target sighting window, a ranging module and a projector. The processor may be configured to control the projector to project a first sighting element onto the target sighting window to select the target, determine a range to the selected target based on the reflected beam, determine an orientation of the bow based at least partially on the determined range to the selected target, determine a location on the target sighting window to present a compensated sighting mark corresponding to the determined orientation, and control the projector to present the variable compensated sighting mark on the target sighting window.

Having thus described various embodiments of the technology, what is claimed as new and desired to be protected by Letters Patent includes the following: 1. A targeting system operable to be used with a bow to assist an operator with striking a target with an arrow from the bow, the targeting system comprising: a ranging module operable to output a beam towards the target and receive a reflection of the beam from the target; a plurality of vertically-aligned light sources; a memory configured to store a user profile associated with the operator, the user profile including a plurality of arrow profiles; and a processor coupled with the ranging module, the plurality of light sources and the memory, the processor configured to: determine a range to the selected target based on the reflected beam, determine an orientation of the bow based at least partially on the determined range to the selected target and the user profile, determine a compensated sighting mark corresponding to the determined orientation, control one of the plurality of light sources to present the variable compensated sighting mark, determine a flight of the arrow for each of the plurality of arrow profiles, the flight of the arrow determined based on an arrow speed, and determine the flight of the arrow based on a type of string release mechanism. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user profile includes a plurality of sighting marks corresponding to a plurality of distances. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the flight of the arrow based on a full bow draw distance associated with an anchor point. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the flight of the arrow based on one of a weight of the arrow and a length of the arrow. 5. The system of claim 1 , further including a user interface coupled with the processor, wherein the processor is operable to select one of the arrow profiles for use in determining the compensated sighting mark based on an input provided through the user interface. 6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the processor is operable to modify at least one of the arrow profiles stored in the memory based on an input provided through the user interface. 7. A targeting system operable to be used with a bow to assist an operator with striking a target with an arrow from the bow, the targeting system comprising: a ranging module operable to output a beam towards the target and receive a reflection of the beam from the target; a plurality of vertically-aligned light sources; a memory configured to store a user profile associated with the operator, the user profile including a plurality of sighting marks corresponding to a plurality of distances; and a processor coupled with the ranging module, the plurality of light sources and the memory, the processor configured to: determine a range to the selected target based on the reflected beam, determine an orientation of the bow based at least partially on the determined range to the selected target and the user profile, determine a compensated sighting mark corresponding to the determined orientation, control one of the plurality of light sources to present the variable compensated sighting mark, and determine the flight of the arrow based on a type of string release mechanism. 8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the user profile further includes a plurality of arrow profiles. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine a flight of the arrow for each of the plurality of arrow profiles, the flight of the arrow determined based on an arrow speed. 10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the flight of the arrow based on a full bow draw distance associated with an anchor point. 11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the flight of the arrow based on one of a weight of the arrow and a length of the arrow. 12. A targeting system operable to be used with a bow to assist an operator with striking a target with an arrow from the bow, the targeting system comprising: a ranging module operable to output a beam towards the target and receive a reflection of the beam from the target; a user interface; a plurality of vertically-aligned light sources; a memory configured to store a user profile associated with the operator, the user profile including a plurality of arrow profiles; and a processor coupled with the ranging module, the user interface, the plurality of light sources, and the memory, the processor configured to: determine a range to the selected target based on the reflected beam, select one of the arrow profiles from the memory based on an input provided through the user interface, determine an orientation of the bow based at least partially on the determined range to the selected target and the selected arrow profile, determine a compensated sighting mark corresponding to the determined orientation, control one of the plurality of light sources to present the variable compensated sighting mark, and determine the flight of the arrow based on a type of string release mechanism. 13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine a flight of the arrow for each of the plurality of arrow profiles, the flight of the arrow determined based on an arrow speed. 14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the flight of the arrow based on a full bow draw distance associated with an anchor point. 15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the flight of the arrow based on one of a weight of the arrow and a length of the arrow. 16. The system of claim 12 , wherein the processor is operable to modify at least one of the arrow profiles stored in the memory based on an input provided through the user interface.
