Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A gaming machine is described herein. The gaming machine includes a control unit programmed to initiate an instance of a primary game and spin and stop virtual reel strips to display an outcome of the primary game. The control unit detects an appearance of a winning combination of game symbols in the outcome and provides an initial award based on the winning combination, and detects an appearance of the collect symbol and a credit prize symbol in the outcome, determines an amount of credits associated with the credit prize symbol, and a bonus award including the determined amount of credits.

What is claimed is: 1. A gaming machine, comprising: a cabinet; a display device mounted to the cabinet; and a game control unit including a processor programmed to execute an algorithm to display an animated sequence of computer-generated images on the display device including the steps of: rendering a game screen on the display device including a primary credit meter, a bonus credit meter, and a plurality of virtual reels displaying a plurality of symbols within a plurality of cells arranged in a grid; initiating an instance of a feature game by animating the plurality of virtual reels to simulate spinning and stopping the plurality of virtual reels to display an outcome of the feature game; detecting one or more credit prize symbols appearing in the outcome of the feature game and responsively animating an image of the bonus credit meter to increase a credit balance displayed with the bonus credit meter based on an amount of credits associated with each of the one or more credit prize symbols appearing in the outcome of the feature game; detecting a mystery feature event symbol appearing in the outcome of the feature game and responsively randomly selecting one of a collect symbol and a reset symbol; and animating the mystery feature event symbol to transform into the selected one of the collect symbol and reset symbol. 2. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of: displaying a reset value on the game screen indicating an initial credit balance of the bonus credit meter. 3. The gaming machine of claim 2 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of: resetting the bonus credit meter to the initial credit balance upon selecting the reset symbol. 4. The gaming machine of claim 3 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of: increasing the primary credit meter a credit amount equal to the credit balance of the bonus credit meter upon selecting the collect symbol. 5. The gaming machine of claim 4 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of: resetting the bonus credit meter to the initial credit balance after increasing the primary credit meter. 6. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of: displaying the plurality of virtual reels within a plurality of columns; and transforming the mystery feature event symbol into the selected one of the collect symbol and reset symbol upon detecting the mystery symbol appearing in a right-most column. 7. The gaming machine of claim 6 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of: rendering the bonus credit meter within an upper portion of the display unit; and rendering the plurality of reels within a lower portion of the display unit. 8. A method of operating a gaming machine including a cabinet, a display device mounted to the cabinet, and a processor operably coupled to the display device, the method including the processor performing an algorithm to display an animated sequence of computer-generated images on the display device including the steps of: rendering a game screen on the display device including a primary credit meter, a bonus credit meter, and a plurality of virtual reels displaying a plurality of symbols within a plurality of cells arranged in a grid; initiating an instance of a feature game by animating the plurality of virtual reels to simulate spinning and stopping the plurality of virtual reels to display an outcome of the feature game; detecting one or more credit prize symbols appearing in the outcome of the feature game and responsively animating an image of the bonus credit meter to increase a credit balance displayed with the bonus credit meter based on an amount of credits associated with each of the one or more credit prize symbols appearing in the outcome of the feature game; detecting a mystery feature event symbol appearing in the outcome of the feature game and responsively randomly selecting one of a collect symbol and a reset symbol; and animating the mystery feature event symbol to transform into the selected one of the collect symbol and reset symbol. 9. The method of claim 8 , including the processor performing the algorithm including the steps of: displaying a reset value on the game screen indicating an initial credit balance of the bonus credit meter. 10. The method of claim 9 , including the processor performing the algorithm including the steps of: resetting the bonus credit meter to the initial credit balance upon selecting the reset symbol. 11. The method of claim 10 , including the processor performing the algorithm including the steps of: increasing the primary credit meter a credit amount equal to the credit balance of the bonus credit meter upon selecting the collect symbol. 12. The method of claim 11 , including the processor performing the algorithm including the steps of: resetting the bonus credit meter to the initial credit balance after increasing the primary credit meter. 13. The method of claim 8 , including the processor performing the algorithm including the steps of: displaying the plurality of virtual reels within a plurality of columns; and transforming the mystery feature event symbol into the selected one of the collect symbol and reset symbol upon detecting the mystery symbol appearing in a right-most column. 14. The method of claim 13 , including the processor performing the algorithm including the steps of: rendering the bonus credit meter within an upper portion of the display unit; and rendering the plurality of reels within a lower portion of the display unit. 15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon to operate a gaming machine including a cabinet, a display device mounted to the cabinet, and a processor operably coupled to the display device, when executed by the processor the computer-executable instructions cause the processor to perform an algorithm to display an animated sequence of computer-generated images on the display device including the steps of: rendering a game screen on the display device including a primary credit meter, a bonus credit meter, and a plurality of virtual reels displaying a plurality of symbols within a plurality of cells arranged in a grid; initiating an instance of a feature game by animating the plurality of virtual reels to simulate spinning and stopping the plurality of virtual reels to display an outcome of the feature game; detecting one or more credit prize symbols appearing in the outcome of the feature game and responsively animating an image of the bonus credit meter to increase a credit balance displayed with the bonus credit meter based on an amount of credits associated with each of the one or more credit prize symbols appearing in the outcome of the feature game; detecting a mystery feature event symbol appearing in the outcome of the feature game and responsively randomly selecting one of a collect symbol and a reset symbol; and animating the mystery feature event symbol to transform into the selected one of the collect symbol and reset symbol. 16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 15 , wherein the computer-executable instructions cause the processor to perform the algorithm including the steps of: displaying a reset value on the game screen indicating an initial credit balance of the bonus credit met
