Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A cooking appliance, as provided herein, may include a cabinet, a plurality of electric heating elements, and a heat shield. The cabinet may define a cooking chamber and an exhaust path downstream therefrom to direct vapor from the cabinet. The plurality of electric heating elements may be mounted within the cabinet. The heat shield may be mounted within the cabinet. The heat shield may extend along a shield plane from a first end to a second end. The heat shield may define a plurality of vent channels spaced apart along the shield plane from the first end to the second end. The plurality of vent channels may be disposed in fluid communication between the cooking chamber and the exhaust path.

What is claimed is: 1. A cooking appliance defining a mutually-orthogonal vertical direction, lateral direction, and transverse direction, the cooking appliance comprising: a cabinet defining a cooking chamber and an exhaust path downstream therefrom to direct vapor from the cabinet; a plurality of electric heating elements mounted within the cabinet; and a heat shield mounted within the cabinet, the heat shield extending along a shield plane from a first end to a second end, the heat shield extending along an arcuate shield plane from the first end to the second end, the heat shield defining a plurality of vent channels spaced apart along the arcuate shield plane from the first end to the second end, the plurality of vent channels being disposed in fluid communication between the cooking chamber and the exhaust path, wherein the first end is disposed above the second end relative to the vertical direction, wherein one or more vent channels of the plurality of vent channels extend continuously across the arcuate shield plane along the lateral direction from a right side to a left side of the heat shield, and wherein each electric heating element of the plurality of electric heating elements is mounted within the cooking chamber forward from the heat shield relative to the transverse direction. 2. The cooking appliance of claim 1 , wherein a heating element of the plurality of electric heating elements is aligned with a corresponding vent channel of the plurality of vent channels along the shield plane from the first end to the second end. 3. The cooking appliance of claim 1 , wherein the cabinet further defines an ambient air inlet in fluid communication with the exhaust path at a location downstream from the plurality of vent channels to permit an unheated airflow to the exhaust path. 4. The cooking appliance of claim 1 , wherein the cabinet defines a plurality of exhaust outlets in fluid parallel. 5. The cooking appliance of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of exhaust outlets comprises a chamber outlet defined at a top end of the cooking chamber to direct an exhaust flow thereto. 6. The cooking appliance of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of exhaust outlets comprises an ambient outlet spaced apart from the cooking chamber at a top portion of the cabinet to direct an exhaust flow to an ambient environment outside of the cabinet. 7. The cooking appliance of claim 1 , wherein the cabinet further defines an uncovered opening in front of the cooking chamber and upstream therefrom to permit unimpeded access to the cooking chamber. 8. The cooking appliance of claim 1 , further comprising a rotatable spit rod disposed within the cooking chamber, wherein the cooking chamber extends along the lateral direction between a first chamber side and a second chamber side, wherein the rotatable spit rod extends from the first chamber side to the second chamber side. 9. A cooking appliance defining a mutually-orthogonal vertical direction, lateral direction, and transverse direction, the cooking appliance comprising: a cabinet defining a cooking chamber and an exhaust path downstream therefrom to direct vapor from the cabinet; a rear interior wall mounted within the cabinet in fluid communication with the cooking chamber and rearward therefrom along the transverse direction; a plurality of electric heating elements mounted within the cabinet; and a heat shield mounted within the cabinet forward from the rear interior wall along the transverse direction, the heat shield extending along an arcuate shield plane from a first end to a second end, the heat shield defining a plurality of vent channels spaced apart along the arcuate shield plane from the first end to the second end, the plurality of vent channels being disposed in fluid communication between the cooking chamber and the exhaust path, wherein the first end is disposed above the second end relative to the vertical direction, wherein one or more vent channels of the plurality of vent channels extend continuously across the arcuate shield plane along the lateral direction from a right side to a left side of the heat shield, and wherein each electric heating element of the plurality of electric heating elements is mounted within the cooking chamber forward from the heat shield relative to the transverse direction. 10. The cooking appliance of claim 9 , wherein a heating element of the plurality of electric heating elements is aligned with a corresponding vent channel of the plurality of vent channels along the arcuate shield plane from the first end to the second end. 11. The cooking appliance of claim 9 , wherein the cabinet further defines an ambient air inlet in fluid communication with the exhaust path at a location downstream from the plurality of vent channels to permit an unheated airflow to the exhaust path. 12. The cooking appliance of claim 9 , wherein the cabinet defines a plurality of exhaust outlets in fluid parallel. 13. The cooking appliance of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of exhaust outlets comprises a chamber outlet defined at a top end of the cooking chamber to direct an exhaust flow thereto. 14. The cooking appliance of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of exhaust outlets comprises an ambient outlet spaced apart from the cooking chamber at a top portion of the cabinet to direct an exhaust flow to an ambient environment outside of the cabinet. 15. The cooking appliance of claim 9 , wherein the cabinet further defines an uncovered opening in front of the cooking chamber and upstream therefrom to permit unimpeded access to the cooking chamber. 16. The cooking appliance of claim 9 , further comprising a rotatable spit rod disposed within the cooking chamber, wherein the cooking chamber extends along the lateral direction between a first chamber side and a second chamber side, wherein the rotatable spit rod extends from the first chamber side to the second chamber side. 17. A cooking appliance defining a mutually-orthogonal vertical direction, lateral direction, and transverse direction, the cooking appliance comprising: a cabinet defining a cooking chamber and an exhaust path downstream therefrom to direct vapor from the cabinet; a rear interior wall mounted within the cabinet in fluid communication with the cooking chamber and rearward therefrom along the transverse direction; a plurality of electric heating elements mounted within the cabinet; a heat shield mounted within the cabinet forward from the rear interior wall along the transverse direction, the heat shield extending along an arcuate shield plane from a first end to a second end, the heat shield defining a plurality of vent channels spaced apart along the arcuate shield plane from the first end to the second end, the plurality of vent channels being disposed in fluid communication between the cooking chamber and the exhaust path; and a vapor catalyst disposed along the exhaust path; a catalyst heater disposed downstream from the plurality of vent channels proximal to the vapor catalyst along the exhaust path; wherein one or more vent channels of the plurality of vent channels extend continuously across the arcuate shield plane along the lateral direction from a right side to a left side of the heat shield, and wherein each electric heating element of the plurality of electric heating elements is mounted within the cooking chamber forward from the heat shield relative to the transverse direction, and wherein the cabinet further defines an ambient air inlet in fluid communication with the exhaust path at a location downstream from the catalyst
