Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present disclosure is directed to an aerosol delivery device and a holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge. In one implementation, the holder includes a main body defining a proximal end and a distal end, and an outer sleeve configured to slide relative to the main body, the outer sleeve also defining a proximal end and a distal end. The outer sleeve is configured to slide to a use position, in which the proximal end of the main body extends beyond the proximal end of the outer sleeve and the distal end of the outer sleeve extends beyond the distal end of the main body, and a storage position, in which the distal end of the main body extends beyond the distal end of the outer sleeve and the proximal end of the outer sleeve substantially covers the proximal end of the main body.

The invention claimed is: 1. A holder for use with a removable substrate cartridge, the holder comprising: a main body defining a proximal end and a distal end, the main body further including a receiving chamber configured to receive at least a portion of a removable substrate cartridge, and an aerosol passageway that extends from the receiving chamber through at least a portion of the main body; and an outer sleeve configured to slide relative to the main body, the outer sleeve also defining a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the outer sleeve is configured to slide to a use position, in which the proximal end of the main body extends beyond the proximal end of the outer sleeve and the distal end of the outer sleeve extends beyond the distal end of the main body, and a storage position, in which the distal end of the main body extends beyond the distal end of the outer sleeve and the proximal end of the outer sleeve substantially covers the proximal end of the main body. 2. The holder of claim 1 , wherein the outer sleeve is further configured to slide to a lighting position, in which the distal end of the outer sleeve is located proximate the distal end of the main body. 3. The holder of claim 2 , wherein in the lighting position, the distal end of the outer sleeve is substantially aligned with the distal end of the main body. 4. The holder of claim 1 , wherein in the storage position, the proximal end of the outer sleeve is substantially aligned with the proximal end of the main body. 5. The holder of claim 1 , wherein the main body includes a mouthpiece portion, wherein a proximal end of the mouthpiece portion defines the proximal end of the main body, and wherein the mouthpiece portion is removable from the remainder of the main body. 6. The holder of claim 1 , wherein the outer sleeve is made of a different material than that of the main body. 7. The holder of claim 1 , wherein the outer sleeve includes a coating made of a material different than that of the main body. 8. The aerosol delivery device of claim 1 , further comprising an ejecting position, wherein the main body is configured to release an inserted substrate cartridge. 9. The aerosol delivery device of claim 8 , wherein the storage position also comprises the ejecting position. 10. The aerosol delivery device of claim 8 , wherein in the ejecting position, the distal end of the outer sleeve extends beyond the distal end of the main body. 11. An aerosol delivery device comprising: a removable cartridge comprising a heat source and a substrate portion that includes a substrate material having an aerosol precursor composition configured to form an aerosol upon application of heat thereto; and a holder comprising: a main body defining a proximal end and a distal end and further including a receiving chamber configured to receive at least a portion of the removable substrate cartridge, and an aerosol passageway that extends from the receiving chamber through at least a portion of the main body; and an outer sleeve configured to slide relative to the main body, the outer sleeve also defining a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the outer sleeve is configured to slide to a use position, in which the proximal end of the main body extends beyond the proximal end of the outer sleeve and the distal end of the outer sleeve substantially covers the heat source of an inserted removable substrate cartridge, and a storage position, in which the distal end of the main body extends beyond the distal end of the outer sleeve and the proximal end of the outer sleeve substantially covers the proximal end of the main body. 12. The aerosol delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the outer sleeve is further configured to slide to a lighting position, in which the distal end of the outer sleeve is located proximate a distal end of the main body. 13. The aerosol delivery device of claim 12 , wherein in the lighting position, the distal end of the outer sleeve is substantially aligned with the distal end of the main body. 14. The aerosol delivery device of claim 11 , wherein in the storage position, the proximal end of the outer sleeve is substantially aligned with the proximal end of the main body. 15. The aerosol delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the main body includes a mouthpiece portion, wherein a proximal end of the mouthpiece portion defines the proximal end of the main body, and wherein the mouthpiece portion is removable from the remainder of the main body. 16. The aerosol delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the outer sleeve is made of a material different than that of the main body. 17. The aerosol delivery device of claim 11 , wherein the outer sleeve includes a coating made of a material different than that of the main body. 18. The aerosol delivery device of claim 11 , further comprising an ejecting position, wherein the main body is configured to release an inserted substrate cartridge. 19. The aerosol delivery device of claim 18 , wherein the storage position also comprises the ejecting position. 20. The aerosol delivery device of claim 18 , wherein in the ejecting position, the distal end of the outer sleeve extends beyond the distal end of the main body.
