A method and an apparatus for Wi-Fi connection based on Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) in a portable terminal are provided. The method includes entering a group owner mode of Wi-Fi Direct when enabling of WPS is requested, after entering the group owner mode, entering a WPS session mode where the portable terminal is operable in a WPS registrar mode, determining whether an Access Point (AP) whose WPS session of the WPS registrar mode is enabled or a device whose group owner mode is enabled, exists nearby, and when an AP whose WPS registrar mode is enabled is discovered, disabling the WPS registrar mode and the group owner mode, enabling a WPS session where the portable terminal is to operate in a WPS enrollee mode, and accessing the discovered AP.

What is claimed is: 1. An electronic device comprising: a short-range wireless communication circuit; and a processor operatively coupled with the short-range wireless communication circuit, wherein the processor is configured to: obtain a request related to perform a wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) connection, in response to the request, enable a first mode of a first Wi-Fi group to wirelessly communicate with at least one external electronic device to be joined in the first Wi-Fi group, wherein the first mode is a mode related to a master of a Wi-Fi group, discover the at least one external electronic device including an external electronic device enabling the first mode of a second Wi-Fi group while the electronic device is enabling the first mode of the first Wi-Fi group, and based at least in part on a determination that the external electronic device enabling the first mode of the second Wi-Fi group is discovered, disable the first mode of the first Wi-fi group, and join the second Wi-Fi group. 2. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to, as at least part of discovering, transmit a reference parameter including a first value related to the first mode of the electronic device, to communicate with the external electronic device in the first mode of the first Wi-Fi group, and wherein the processor is further configured to: based at least in part on the determination that the external electronic device operating in the first mode of the second Wi-Fi group is to be connected, compare the first value of the electronic device with a second value related to the first mode of the external electronic device, and connect to the external electronic device based on the comparing of the first value and the second value. 3. The electronic device of claim 2 , wherein the processor is further configured to enable a master mode of the second Wi-Fi group as at least part of the first mode based on the first value being greater than the second value. 4. The electronic device of claim 2 , wherein the processor is further configured to enable a second mode of the second Wi-Fi group based on the first value being less than the second value. 5. The electronic device of claim 4 , wherein the processor is further configured to: enable a slave mode as at least part of the second mode. 6. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to: perform the communicating with the external electronic device such that one or more functions corresponding to the request are performed using the second Wi-Fi group. 7. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to: transmit, via the short-range wireless communication circuit, first information including a first network identifier corresponding to the electronic device and the first value to the external electronic device prior to the communicating. 8. The electronic device of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further configured to: receive, via the short-range wireless communication circuit, second information including a second network identifier corresponding to the external electronic device and the second value from the external electronic device prior to the communicating. 9. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to: join, as at least part of connecting to the external electronic device, the second Wi-Fi group as the first mode, and cause, as at least part of the connecting to the external electronic device, the external electronic device to disable the first mode and enable a second mode. 10. The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to: while the electronic device and the external electronic device are included as at least part of the second Wi-Fi group, perform the communicating with the external electronic device based on Wi-Fi direct connection. 11. An electronic device comprising: a short-range wireless communication circuit; and a processor operatively coupled with the short-range wireless communication circuit, the processor configured to: in response to a request related to a first wireless-fidelity (wi-fi) group including the electronic device, enable a master mode with respect to the electronic device ice to control the first wi-fi group, while the master mode is enabled with respect to the electronic device, discover at least one external electronic device, and based at least in part on the discovering of an external electronic device operating in the master mode with respect to a second wi-fi group including the external electronic device, communicate, via short-range wireless communication circuit, with the external electronic device as the master mode is inactivated with respect to the electronic device. 12. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to: perform the communicating with the external electronic device such that one or more functions corresponding to the request are performed using the second wi-fi group. 13. The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to: transmit, as part of discovering, a first value set with respect to the master mode to the external electronic device and receive a second value set with respect to the master mode from the external electronic device. 14. An electronic device comprising: at least one processor; and at least one memory storing one or more instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to: receive a request relating to a wireless-fidelity (wi-fi) connection, enable a master mode of a first wi-fi group having no connection with another device, in response to the request relating to wi-fi connection being received, discover, while the master mode of the first wi-fi group is enabled, an external electronic device, based on the discovered external electronic device to be connected being a master mode of a second wi-fi group, compare a first value of the electronic device, with a second value of the discovered external electronic device, and based at least in part on the comparing of the first value and the second value, inactivate the master mode of the first wi-fi group, and join the second wi-fi group. 15. The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein the one or more instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the at least one processor to connect to the second wi-fi group based on a first value having a greater value than a second value, and wherein the external device is configured to acquire master rights of the second wi-fi group based on the first value being the greater than the second value.
