Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Electromagnetic shielding about both of electric connectors, which are in a mutually mated state, can be sufficiently carried out by a simple configuration. Shield wall portions composed of electrically-conductive members opposed to contact connecting portions (board connecting portions) of a plurality of contact members arranged in multipolar shapes are provided; electromagnetic shielding functions with respect to the contact connecting portions in the respective electric connectors are obtained well by the respective shield wall portions; and, when both of the electric connectors are mated with each other, the shield wall portions are configured to be in an inner/outer double disposition relation in which they are opposed to each other and efficiently block the gaps between the shield wall portions and wiring boards so that sufficient EMI measures can be expected.

An electric connector device comprising: a first electric connector; and a second electric connector configured to fit the first electric connector in a fitting direction, wherein the first electric connector comprises: a first insulating housing comprising: a first side face along an arrangement direction that is perpendicular to the fitting direction; and a pair of first end portions in the arrangement direction; a plurality of first contact members held by the first insulating housing and aligned along the arrangement direction; and a first conductive shell surrounding the first insulating housing and the plurality of first contact members, the first conductive shell comprising a first side wall that faces the first side face with a gap, wherein the second electric connector comprises: a second insulating housing comprising: a second side face along the arrangement direction; and a pair of second end portions in the arrangement direction; a plurality of second contact members held by the second insulating housing and aligned along the arrangement direction; and a second conductive shell surrounding the second insulating housing and the plurality of second contact members, the second conductive shell comprising a second side wall that faces the second side face with a gap, wherein the pair of first end portions protrude from the first side face toward the first side wall, wherein each of the plurality of first contact members comprises a first board-connecting portion extending into a first area defined by the first side face, the pair of first end portions, and the first side wall, to face the first side wall in the first area, wherein the pair of second end portions protrude from the second side face toward the second side wall, and wherein each of the plurality of second contact members comprises a second board-connecting portion extending into a second area defined by the second side face, the pair of second end portions, and the second side wall, to face the second side wall in the second area. 2. The electric connector device according to claim 1 , wherein the pair of first end portions protrude from the first side face to be closer to the first side wall compared with the plurality of first contact members. 3. The electric connector device according to claim 2 , wherein the pair of second end portions protrude from the second side face to be closer to the second side wall compared with the plurality of second contact members. 4. The electric connector device according to claim 1 , wherein the pair of first end portions protrude from the first side face to contact the first side wall. 5. The electric connector device according to claim 4 , wherein the pair of second end portions protrude from the second side face to contact the second side wall. 6. The electric connector device according to claim 4 , wherein the first conductive shell further comprises a pair of first end walls each of which is perpendicular to the arrangement direction, and wherein the pair of first end portions contact the pair of first end walls respectively. 7. The electric connector device according to claim 6 , wherein the second conductive shell further comprises a pair of second end walls each of which is perpendicular to the arrangement direction, and wherein the pair of second end portions contact the pair of second end walls respectively. 8. The electric connector device according to claim 1 , wherein the first conductive shell is fixed to at least a part of the pair of first end portions positioned between the first side face and the first side wall. 9. The electric connector device according to claim 8 , wherein the second conductive shell is fixed to at least a part of the pair of second end portions positioned between the second side face and the second side wall. 10. The electric connector device according to claim 1 , wherein the second electric connector is configured to fit the first electric connector with the pair of first end portions and the pair of second end portions overlap each other along the fitting direction. 11. The electric connector device according to claim 10 , wherein the pair of first end portions comprises a first portion having a first thickness, wherein the pair of second end portions comprises a second portion having a second thickness that is different from the first thickness, and wherein the second electric connector is configured to fit the first electric connector with the first portion and the second portion overlap each other along the fitting direction. 12. The electric connector device according to claim 11 , wherein the second electric connector is configured to fit the first electric connector with the second conductive shell positioned inside the first conductive shell, and wherein the first thickness is smaller than the second thickness. 13. The electric connector device according to claim 12 , wherein the first insulating housing comprises a projecting portion, wherein the plurality of first contact members are positioned outside the projecting portion, wherein the second insulating housing comprises a recessed portion, wherein the plurality of second contact members are positioned inside the recessed portion, and wherein the second electric connector is configured to fit the first electric connector with the projecting portion in into the recessed portion. 14. An electric connector configured to fit a mate connector along in a fitting direction, the electric connector comprising: an insulating housing comprising: a side face along an arrangement direction that is perpendicular to the fitting direction; and a pair of end portions in the arrangement direction; a plurality of contact members held by the insulating housing and aligned along the arrangement direction; and a conductive shell surrounding the insulating housing and the plurality of contact members, the conductive shell comprising a side wall that faces the side face with a gap, wherein the pair of end portions protrude from the side face toward the side wall to contact the side wall, and wherein each of the plurality of contact members comprises a board-connecting portion extending into an area defined by the side face, the pair of end portions, and the side wall, to face the side wall in the area. 15.
