Official abstract text for this publication.
The inventive subject matter includes an antimicrobial peptide vectored composition made of a bacterial protein expression vehicle expressing one or more recombinant antimicrobial peptide effector molecules. More specifically these novel recombinant antimicrobial peptide effector molecules exhibit preferential anti-microbial activity. The utility of the current inventive subject matter has demonstrated a reduced viability of Eimeira acervulina sporozoites in vitro using a sporozoite killing assay. More specifically, the antimicrobial peptide vectored composition is a bacterial protein expression vehicle expressing one or more recombinant antimicrobial peptide effector molecules, wherein the one or more recombinant antimicrobial peptide effector molecules are engineered from a NK-lysin gene and the one or more recombinant antimicrobial peptide effector molecules are engineered to express functionally active NK-2.

What is claimed is: 1. A method to treat a subject in need of a treatment comprising: orally administering a therapeutically effective amount of an antimicrobial peptide vectored composition comprising a bacterial protein expression vehicle comprised of a whole cell Bacillus subtilis transformed with a replicable plasmid DNA expression construct codon-optimized for expressing functionally active NK-2, wherein the subject is poultry and said poultry are in need of treatment for Avian coccidiosis, comprising the step of orally administering to the subject the therapeutically effective amount of the antimicrobial peptide vectored composition to induce cytotoxicity to treat an Avian coccidiosis infection. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is poultry and said poultry are in need of treatment to increase body weight, comprising the step of orally administering to the subject the therapeutically amount of a stable strain of a probiotic B. subtilis expressing cNK-2 to increase body weight of said subject.
