Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present invention relates to a printing apparatus including: a conveyance roller; and a slitter unit configured to cut a printing medium, which is conveyed by the conveyance roller, wherein the slitter unit includes a cutting mechanism including an upper movable blade and a lower movable blade, each of which is in a round shape, and configured to cut the printing medium at a contact point of the upper movable blade and the lower movable blade, a driving unit configured to rotate the upper movable blade and the lower movable blade, and a control unit configured to control a driving amount of the driving unit, and wherein the control unit controls the driving amount of the driving unit such that a movement speed of the upper movable blade and the lower movable blade passing through the contact point becomes greater than a conveyance speed of the printing medium.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A printing apparatus comprising: a conveyance roller configured to convey a printing medium in a conveyance direction; a cutting unit configured to cut, with a rotary blade, the printing medium conveyed by the conveyance roller, in a case where the printing medium reaches a predetermined position; and a driving unit configured to drive the rotary blade of the cutting unit, wherein the driving unit rotates the rotary blade so that after cutting of the printing medium is started, a movement speed at which the rotary blade passes the predetermined position becomes slower. 2. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the rotary blade comprises (a) an upper rotary blade which is at an upper side relative to the printing medium and which is in a round shape, and (b) a lower rotary blade which is at a lower side relative to the printing medium and which is in a round shape, and wherein the predetermined position is a contact point of the upper rotary blade and the lower rotary blade. 3. The printing apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the driving unit rotates the upper rotary blade. 4. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a conveying unit configured to convey the printing medium between an end of the printing medium and the rotary blade in a width direction of the printing medium intersecting the conveyance direction. 5. The printing apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein the rotary blade comprises (a) an upper rotary blade which is at an upper side relative to the printing medium, which is in a round shape, and which can rotate, and (b) a lower rotary blade which is at a lower side relative to the printing medium, which can rotate, and which is in a round shape, and wherein the conveying unit comprises an upper conveyance roller provided concentrically with the upper rotary blade and a lower conveyance roller provided concentrically with the lower rotary blade. 6. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a printing unit configured to print an image on the printing medium, wherein the cutting unit is provided downstream of the printing unit in the conveyance direction. 7. The printing apparatus according to claim 6 , further comprising: a carriage, upon which the printing unit is mounted, the carriage being configured to move the printing unit in a width direction of the printing medium intersecting the conveyance direction; and a detecting unit provided on the carriage and configured to detect an end of the printing medium. 8. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the cutting unit can move in a width direction of the printing medium. 9. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a plurality of the cutting units are provided in a width direction of the printing medium. 10. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a second cutting unit configured to move in a width direction of the printing medium and cut the printing medium. 11. The printing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the driving unit drives the rotary blade so that before the printing medium reaches the predetermined position, the movement speed at which the rotary blade passes the predetermined position becomes greater than a conveyance speed of the printing medium by the conveyance roller. 12. A cutting apparatus comprising: a conveyance roller configured to convey a printing medium in a conveyance direction; a cutting unit configured to cut, with a rotary blade, the printing medium conveyed by the conveyance roller, in a case where the printing medium reaches a predetermined position; and a driving unit configured to drive the rotary blade of the cutting unit, wherein the driving unit rotates the rotary blade so that after cutting of the printing medium is started, a movement speed at which the rotary blade passes the predetermined position becomes slower. 13. The cutting apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein the driving unit drives the rotary blade so that before the printing medium reaches the predetermined position, the movement speed at which the rotary blade passes the predetermined position becomes greater than a conveyance speed of the printing medium by the conveyance roller. 14. The cutting apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein the rotary blade comprises (a) an upper rotary blade which is at an upper side relative to the printing medium and which is in a round shape, and (b) a lower rotary blade which is at a lower side relative to the printing medium and which is in a round shape, and wherein the predetermined position is a contact point of the upper rotary blade and the lower rotary blade. 15. The cutting apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein the driving unit rotates the upper rotary blade.
