Fertilizer particles with urease inhibitors and nitrification inhibitors are described herein. The fertilizer particles can include a core particle comprising a urease inhibitor and an outer layer comprising a nitrification inhibitor.
Opening claim text (preview).
The invention claimed is: 1. A fertilizer particle comprising a shell in contact with an outer surface of a core, the fertilizer particle comprising: a nitrification inhibitor; a urease inhibitor; and a nitrogen fertilizer, wherein the nitrification inhibitor and urease inhibitor are separated in the fertilizer particle, and wherein the shell comprises no nitrification inhibitor. 2. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the nitrification inhibitor is dicyandiamide, 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate, thiourea, 2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl)-pyridine, 5-ethoxy-3-trichloromethyl-1,2,4-thiadiazole, 2-amino-4-chloro-6-methyl-pyrimidine, 2-mercapto-benzothiazole, or 2-sulfanimalamidothiazole, or a combination thereof. 3. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the urease inhibitor is N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide, or phenyl phosphorodiamidate, or a combination thereof. 4. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the fertilizer particle further comprises a binder, a filler, or a pH buffering agent, or a combination thereof. 5. The fertilizer particle of claim 4 , wherein the binder comprises plaster of paris, flour, biodegradable bleached wheat flour, starch, gluten, kaolin, bentonite, or colloidal silica, or a combination thereof. 6. The fertilizer particle of claim 4 , wherein the filler comprises silica, dried distillers grains with solubles, or rice husk, or a combination thereof. 7. The fertilizer particle of claim 4 , wherein the pH buffering agent comprises chalk powder, CaCO 3 , MgO, KH 2 PO 4 , NaHCO 3 , Na 2 CO 3 , K 2 CO 3 , or MgCO 3 , or a combination thereof. 8. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the shell comprises the nitrogen fertilizer. 9. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the core further comprises a binder, a filler, or a pH buffering agent, or a combination thereof. 10. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the urease inhibitor is comprised in the core. 11. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the shell comprises no urease inhibitor. 12. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the urease inhibitor is comprised in the shell and the nitrification inhibitor is comprised in the core. 13. The fertilizer particle of claim 1 , wherein the core comprises no urease inhibitor. 14. A method of fertilizing a plant, the method comprising contacting the plant, soil around the plant, or water, or a combination thereof with the fertilizer particle of claim 1 . 15. A method of manufacturing the fertilizer particle of claim 1 , the method comprising: providing a core particle comprising the nitrification inhibitor and the nitrogen fertilizer, providing a shell composition comprising the urease inhibitor, and contacting the core particle with the shell composition under conditions sufficient to adhere the shell composition on an outer surface of the core particle to form a solid fertilizer particle, and wherein the shell comprises no nitrification inhibitor.
