Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A saw blade including a body, a plurality of cutting teeth, and a plurality of gullets. The plurality of cutting teeth formed on the body. Each cutting tooth includes a first end and a second end. The plurality of gullets is formed between the plurality of cutting teeth. Each gullet having an opening defined between the first end of one tooth of the plurality of cutting teeth and the second end of an adjacent tooth of the plurality of cutting teeth. Each opening has an opening width and a gullet width. A ratio between he gullet width over the opening width is greater than or equal to 1.2:1.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A saw blade comprising: a body defining a longitudinal axis; a plurality of cutting teeth formed on the body and defining a linear edge that is parallel to the longitudinal axis, each cutting tooth including a first end and a second end; a plurality of gullets formed between the plurality of cutting teeth, each gullet having an opening defined between the first end of one tooth of the plurality of cutting teeth and the second end of an adjacent tooth of the plurality of cutting teeth, each opening having an opening width, each gullet further having a gullet width; and a plurality of cutting inserts mounted on the linear edge outside of the plurality of gullets; wherein a ratio between the gullet width over the opening width that is greater than or equal to 1.2:1. 2. The saw blade of claim 1 , wherein the ratio between the gullet width over the opening width is between 10:1 and 1.6:1. 3. The saw blade of claim 1 , wherein the ratio between the gullet width over the opening width is between 2:1 and 1.7:1. 4. The saw blade of claim 1 , wherein each gullet forms a first undercut portion under the first end of one tooth of the plurality of cutting teeth and a second undercut portion under the second end of an adjacent tooth of the plurality of cutting teeth. 5. The saw blade of claim 4 , wherein the first undercut portion is defined by a first curved segment of the one tooth, and wherein the second undercut portion is defined by a second curved segment of the adjacent tooth. 6. The saw blade of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of cutting teeth includes less than 7 cutting teeth per inch. 7. The saw blade of claim 1 , wherein a first cutting insert is coupled to the first end of each cutting tooth, and wherein a second cutting insert is coupled to the second end of each cutting insert. 8. The saw blade of claim 7 , wherein the first cutting insert defines a first tip at the first end of each cutting tooth, wherein the second cutting insert defines a second tip at the second end of each cutting tooth, and wherein the first tip and the second tip extend into the opening width between respective cutting teeth. 9. A saw blade comprising: a body; a plurality of cutting teeth formed on the body, each cutting tooth including a tooth body having a first end and a second end; a plurality of cutting inserts mounted to the plurality of cutting teeth, each cutting insert having a rake face, the plurality of cutting teeth and the plurality of cutting inserts forming a linear cutting edge; and a plurality of gullets formed between the plurality of cutting teeth, each gullet being generally circular and having a gullet width that is greater than an opening width of an opening between adjacent tooth bodies, the opening width being measured between the first end and the second end of the adjacent tooth bodies, each gullet forming a first undercut portion under the first end of one tooth body with respect to the rake face of a corresponding cutting insert mounted to the one tooth body and a second undercut portion under the second end of an adjacent tooth body with respect to the rake face of a corresponding cutting insert mounted to the adjacent tooth body. 10. The saw blade of claim 9 , wherein the gullet width is defined between the first undercut portion and the second undercut portion. 11. The saw blade of claim 9 , wherein a ratio between the gullet width over the opening width is between 10:1 and 1.6:1. 12. The saw blade of claim 9 , wherein a ratio between the gullet width over the opening width is between 2:1 and 1.7:1. 13. The saw blade of claim 9 , wherein a first carbide insert is coupled to the first end of each cutting tooth, and wherein a second carbide insert is coupled to the second end of each cutting tooth. 14. A method of manufacturing a saw blade, the method comprising: providing a saw blade body defining a longitudinal axis; forming a plurality of cutting teeth defining a linear edge that is parallel to the longitudinal axis in the saw blade body, each cutting tooth including a first end and a second end such that an opening width is defined between the first end of one cutting tooth and the second end of an adjacent cutting tooth; forming a plurality of gullets in the saw blade body between the plurality of cutting teeth, each gullet having a gullet width such that a ratio of the gullet width over the opening width is greater than or equal to 1.2:1; and mounting a plurality of cutting inserts mounted on the linear edge outside of the plurality of gullets. 15. The method of claim 14 , wherein forming the plurality of gullets includes forming a first undercut portion under the first end of each cutting tooth and forming a second undercut portion under the second end of each cutting tooth, and wherein the gullet width is defined between the first undercut portion and the second undercut portion. 16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the ratio of the gullet width over the opening width that is between 10: and 1.6:1. 17. The method of claim 14 , wherein mounting the plurality of cutting inserts on the linear edge includes mounting a first cutting insert that extends from the first end of one cutting tooth into the opening width and mounting a second cutting insert that extends from the second end of an adjacent cutting tooth into the opening width.
