Official abstract text for this publication.
A system and method for wireless synchronization on a network are disclosed. In one embodiment, the wireless device includes a wireless transceiver and processing circuitry. The wireless transceiver wirelessly receives synchronization information including a superframe from a first wireless, reader device, and wirelessly transmits the synchronization information to a second wireless, reader device and a portable wireless device, and to wirelessly detect a presence of a portable wireless device. The processing circuitry communicates synchronization information to the second wireless, reader device and portable wireless device. The superframe is used to synchronize a wireless data exchange between the third wireless, reader device and the portable wireless device.

What is claimed is: 1. A system, comprising: an apparatus, the apparatus comprising: a wireless transceiver having an active mode in which power is consumed, and a sleep mode in which power is conserved; a timer operatively coupled to the wireless transceiver, the timer being used to indicate when to switch the wireless transceiver from sleep mode to active mode based on time slot information; and processing circuitry operatively coupled to the wireless transceiver and the timer, the processing circuitry arranged to receive an input from the timer indicating when to switch the wireless transceiver from the sleep mode to the active mode and switch the wireless transceiver from the sleep mode to the active mode in response to the input from the timer, the processing circuitry arranged to tune the wireless transceiver to a first channel during a first active mode for monitoring communication on the first channel, and the processing circuitry arranged to increase a channel number to a second channel, reset the timer, and tune the wireless transceiver to the second channel during a second active mode subsequent to an absence of communication on the first channel, wherein the wireless transceiver transmits identity information associated with the apparatus on one or more of the first channel and the second channel. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the time slot information is received wirelessly by the apparatus. 3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus has a known physical location. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus has a known physical location that is a fixed physical location. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the identity information associated with the apparatus uniquely identifies the apparatus. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus wirelessly transmits data that completes a secure transaction. 7. The system of claim 1 , comprising a server configured to receive data from a portable wireless electronic device when the portable wireless electronic device is in proximity to the apparatus. 8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the server is further configured to track a location of the portable wireless electronic device based on a periodic wireless communication between the portable wireless electronic device and the apparatus. 9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the location of the portable wireless electronic device is based on determining that the portable wireless electronic device is within a wireless coverage range of the apparatus. 10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus enables a user of a portable wireless electronic device to access at least one of an application, an asset, and a service when the apparatus and the portable wireless electronic device are within proximity of one another. 11. A method comprising: switching a wireless transceiver of a device from a sleep mode in which power is conserved to an active mode in which power is consumed responsive to an expiration of a timer, the timer indicating when to switch the wireless transceiver from sleep mode to active mode based on time slot information; tuning the wireless transceiver to a first channel during a first active mode; monitoring communication on the first channel during the first active mode; responsive to an absence of communication on the first channel, resetting the timer and increasing a channel number to a second channel; subsequent to increasing the channel number to the second channel, tuning the wireless transceiver to the second channel during a second active mode; and responsive to a presence of communication on the second channel, transmitting identity information associated with the device on the second channel during the second active mode. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the time slot information is received wirelessly by the device. 13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the device has a known physical location. 14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the device has a known physical location that is a fixed physical location. 15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the identity information associated with the device uniquely identifies the device. 16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the device wirelessly transmits data that completes a secure transaction. 17. The method of claim 11 , further comprising receiving data, at a server, from a portable wireless electronic device when the portable wireless electronic device is in proximity to the device. 18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising tracking a location of the portable wireless electronic device based on a periodic wireless communication between the portable wireless electronic device and the device. 19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the location of the portable wireless electronic device is based on determining that the portable wireless electronic device is within a wireless coverage range of the device. 20. The method of claim 11 , further comprises enabling access to at least one of an application, an asset, and a service when the device and a portable wireless electronic device of a user are within proximity of one another.
