Official abstract text for this publication.
The disclosed subject matter enables a user to construct a selectable link to invite others to launch directly into a same session of a multi-user application, such as a game or party. The inviting user may construct the link without ever launching the multi-user application. Subsequently, both the inviting and invited users may share the link with others using any conventional form of electronic communication.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method at an electronic device, the method comprising: generating an invitation identifier associated with a unique multi-user session of an application; generating a link uniquely associated with the invitation identifier, the link being separate from at least the invitation identifier and causing the application to launch in response to an indication that the link was selected by one or more users; providing the link to at least one electronic device associated with the one or more users; associating at least the invitation identifier with a user identifier of each of the one or more users in response to providing the link to the one or more users, wherein the associated invitation identifier is separate from the link and identifies the unique multi-user session for the application, and wherein the unique multi-user session is comprised of a user of the electronic device and the one or more users; and responsive to receiving an indication that at least one user of the one or more users has selected the link, performing one or more qualifications checks for the at least one user to determine a condition for launching the at least one user into a unique session of the application. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the invitation identifier comprises generating the invitation identifier based on a user identifier uniquely associated with an invitor and an application identifier associated with the application. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: responsive to performing the one or more qualification checks, launching the at least one user into the unique session of the application, the unique session uniquely associated with the invitation identifier. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the link is provided prior to and independently of the application being launched. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the link is provided via an interface of the application. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein, before the application is launched, the link is provided via a web browser interface. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the link causes the application to launch in a mode based on a selected parameter. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the application is a video game and the selected parameter corresponds to savepoint or level information. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving a selection of a second device using a first device; receiving an indication that an invitor associated with the invitation identifier or at least one invitee associated with the link selected the link using the first device; and launching the application on the second device in response to the invitor or the at least one invitee having selected the link using the first device. 10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first device is incapable of launching the application. 11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the invitor does not own the application. 12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the at least one invitee does not own the application. 13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving a first indication that at least one user of the one or more users has selected the link in response to the at least one user selecting the link, regardless of whether an invitor associated with the invitation identifier has selected the link. 14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising: receiving a second indication that the invitor has selected the link in response to the invitor selecting the link, wherein the first indication is received prior to the second indication. 15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving an indication that an invitee user has selected the link; and responsive to receiving the indication, allowing the invitee user to enter the unique multi-user session of the application without a host user currently participating in the unique multi-user session of the application. 16. An electronic device, comprising: a processor; and at least one memory storing executable instructions, the executable instructions configured to manipulate the processor to: generate an invitation identifier associated with a unique multi-user session of an application; generate a link uniquely associated with the invitation identifier, the link being separate from at least the invitation identifier and causing the application to launch in response to an indication that the link was selected by one or more users; provide the link to at least one electronic device associated with the one or more users; and associate at least the invitation identifier with a user identifier of each of the one or more users in response to providing the link to the one or more users, wherein the associated invitation identifier is separate from the link and identifies the unique multi-user session for the application, and wherein the unique multi-user session is comprised of a user of the electronic device and the one or more users; and responsive to receiving an indication that at least one user of the one or more users has selected the link, perform one or more qualifications checks for the at least one user to determine a condition for launching the at least one user into a unique session of the application. 17. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein the executable instructions manipulate the electronic device to generate the invitation identifier based on a user identifier uniquely associated with an invitor and an application identifier associated with the application. 18. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein the executable instructions further manipulate the processor to: response to the one or more qualification checks being performed, launch the at least one user into the unique session of the application, the unique session uniquely associated with the invitation identifier. 19. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein the link is provided prior to and independently of the application being launched. 20. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein the link is provided via an interface of the application. 21. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein, before the application is launched, the link is provided via a web browser interface. 22. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein the link causes the application to launch in a mode based on a selected parameter. 23. The electronic device of claim 22 , wherein the application is a video game and the selected parameter corresponds to savepoint or level information. 24. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein the executable instructions further manipulate the processor to: receive a selection of a second device using a first device; receive an indication that an invitor associated with the invitation identifier or at least one invitee associated with the link selected the link using the first device; and launching the application on the second device in response to the invitor or the at least one invitee having selected the link using the first device. 25. The electronic device of claim 24 , wherein the first device is incapable of launching the application. 26. The electronic device of claim 24 , wherein the invitor does not own the application. 27. The electronic device of claim 24 , wherein the at least one invitee does not own the application. 28. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein the executable instructions furt
