Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Method, apparatus and computer program product for seamless communication resource transition are described herein. A user may wish to share an external communication resource within a group-based communication system. Settings may be provided allowing the user to more effectively share the external communication resource. The user may select the appropriate settings such that the external communication resource can be transmitted to the group-based communication system for display in accordance with the selected settings.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A method for transmitting a communication resource between an external communications system to a group-based communication system, comprising: causing display of a first sharing user interface element on a first user interface, the first user interface configured to display an email message; responsive to a first selection of the first sharing user interface element, causing display of a visual representation, on the first user interface, for transmitting the email message to a recipient, wherein the visual representation comprises a second sharing user interface element and a plurality of settings for configuring display of the email message in the group-based communication system, wherein the plurality of settings is determined based in part on a resource type of the email message, wherein each setting of the plurality of settings is set to a recommended value based in part on the email message; and responsive to a second selection of the second sharing user interface element, transmitting the email message for display in the group-based communication system based on the plurality of settings. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of settings comprises at least one of a suggested recipient or a suggested destination. 3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the suggested recipient and the suggested destination are determined based in part on user activity within the group-based communication system. 4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of settings further comprises an attachment parameter, and the method further comprising: responsive to determining the email message comprises an attachment, setting the recommended value for the attachment parameter to a value indicative of a preference for attachment inclusion. 5. The method of claim 2 , the method further comprising: causing display of a preview of the email message in the group-based communication system. 6. The method of claim 5 , the method further comprising: responsive to a selection of the preview of the email message in the group-based communication system, causing display of the email message. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of settings comprises a comment parameter for associating a comment with the email message, and wherein the method further comprises: receiving user input for the comment parameter; and causing display of the comment with the email message in the group-based communication system. 8. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, perform a method for transmitting a communication resource between an external communications system to a group-based communication system, comprising: causing display of a first sharing user interface element on a first user interface, the first user interface configured to display an email message; responsive to a first selection of the first sharing user interface element, causing display of a visual representation, on the first user interface, for transmitting the email message to a recipient, wherein the visual representation comprises a second sharing user interface element and a plurality of settings for configuring display of the email message in the group-based communication system, wherein the plurality of settings is determined based in part on a resource type of the email message, wherein each setting of the plurality of settings is set to a recommended value based in part on the email message; and responsive to a second selection of the second sharing user interface element, transmitting the email message for display in the group-based communication system based on the plurality of settings. 9. The media of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of settings comprises at least one of a suggested recipient or a suggested destination. 10. The media of claim 9 , wherein the suggested recipient and the suggested destination are determined based in part on user activity within the group-based communication system. 11. The media of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of settings further comprises an attachment parameter, and the method further comprising: responsive to determining the email message comprises an attachment, setting the recommended value for the attachment parameter to a value indicative of a preference for attachment inclusion. 12. The media of claim 9 , the method further comprising: causing display of a preview of the email message in the group-based communication system. 13. The media of claim 12 , the method further comprising: responsive to a selection of the preview of the email message in the group-based communication system, causing display of the email message. 14. The media of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of settings comprises a comment parameter for associating a comment with the email message, and wherein the method further comprises: receiving user input for the comment parameter; and causing display of the comment with the email message in the group-based communication system. 15. A system for transmitting a communication resource between an external communications system to a group-based communication system, the system comprising: a data store; at least one processor; and one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to carry out actions, comprising: causing display of a first sharing user interface element on a first user interface, the first user interface configured to display an email message; responsive to a first selection of the first sharing user interface element, causing display of a visual representation, on the first user interface, for transmitting the email message to a recipient, wherein the visual representation comprises a second sharing user interface element and a plurality of settings for configuring display of the email message in the group-based communication system, wherein the plurality of settings is determined based in part on a resource type of the email message, wherein each setting of the plurality of settings is set to a recommended value based in part on the email message; and responsive to a second selection of the second sharing user interface element, transmitting the email message for display in the group-based communication system based on the plurality of settings. 16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of settings comprises at least one of a suggested recipient or a suggested destination, and wherein the suggested recipient and the suggested destination are determined based in part on user activity within the group-based communication system. 17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of settings further comprises an attachment parameter, and the actions further comprising: responsive to determining the email message comprises an attachment, setting the recommended value for the attachment parameter to a value indicative of a preference for attachment inclusion. 18. The system of claim 16 , the actions further comprising: causing display of a preview of the email message in the group-based communication system. 19. The system of claim 18 , the actions further comprising: responsive to a selection of the preview of the email message in the group-based communication system, causing display of the email message. 20. The system of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of setting
