Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A brassiere disclosed herein includes a cup, a band coupled to and disposed below the cup, and a pocket disposed on the band. The pocket may be formed by an inner panel and an outer panel that are coupled together at their edges. The pocket may be sized and shaped to receive a portable electronic device. The outer panel of the pocket may be constructed from a mesh material that permits visibility of the contents of the pocket. The mesh material of the outer panel may also enable a wearer of the brassiere to activate or utilize the touch screen of a portable electronic device disposed within the pocket without removing the portable electronic device from the pocket or without reaching within the pocket.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A brassiere defining a front side and a rear side, the brassiere comprising: a body portion having a lower end; and a band portion connected to the body portion that extends from the lower end of the body portion, the band portion comprising: a first layer of material, and a second layer of material positioned on the first layer of material to form a pocket between the first layer of material and the second layer of material, wherein a top edge of the second layer of material is coupled to a top edge of the first layer of material except for at an uncoupled section location along the front side of the brassiere to form a pocket opening providing access to the pocket. 2. The brassiere of claim 1 , wherein the first layer of material comprises an inner fabric panel and the second layer of material comprises an outer fabric panel. 3. The brassiere of claim 1 , wherein the body portion is configured to support breasts of a wearer. 4. The brassiere of claim 3 , wherein the body portion includes a first cup, a second cup, and a bridge connecting the first cup to the second cup. 5. The brassiere of claim 4 , wherein the pocket opening is positioned below the bridge of the body portion. 6. The brassiere of claim 1 , wherein: the pocket defines an internal cavity configured to receive and house items; and the opening provides access to the internal cavity. 7. The brassiere of claim 1 , wherein the band portion is coupled to the lower end of the body portion via stitching. 8. The brassiere of claim 1 , wherein: the band portion defines a generally annular opening configured to extend continuously around a torso of a wearer; and the brassiere further comprises a pair of shoulder straps extending from the front side to the rear side. 9. The brassiere of claim 1 , wherein: the first layer of material further includes a bottom edge opposite the top edge; the second layer of material further includes a bottom edge opposite the top edge; the top edge of the first layer of material is aligned with the top edge of the second layer of material; and the bottom edge of the first layer of material is aligned with the bottom edge of the second layer of material. 10. A brassiere defining a front side and a rear side, the brassiere comprising: a body extending from the front side to the rear side; and a band extending from a lower edge of the body, the band comprising a pocket section disposed on the front side and including an inner fabric panel and an outer fabric panel that define an interior cavity therebetween, wherein: the inner fabric panel is continuously connected to the lower edge of the body within the pocket section, and the outer fabric panel includes a first section disposed between a second section and a third section, the second section and third section of the outer fabric panel are coupled to the inner fabric panel along an edge, and the first section of the outer fabric panel is decoupled from the inner fabric panel along the edge to form a pocket opening to the interior cavity formed between the inner fabric panel and the outer fabric panel. 11. The brassiere of claim 10 , wherein the body along the front side of the brassiere includes a first cup, a second cup, and a bridge connecting the first cup to the second cup. 12. The brassiere of claim 11 , wherein the pocket opening in the band is positioned below the bridge of the body. 13. The brassiere of claim 12 , wherein: the outer fabric panel includes a top edge; and the top edge of the outer fabric panel is secured to the inner fabric panel within the second section and the third section. 14. The brassiere of claim 13 , wherein: the inner fabric panel includes a top edge; the inner fabric panel further includes a bottom edge opposite the top edge; the outer fabric panel further includes a bottom edge opposite the top edge; the top edge of the inner fabric panel aligns with the top edge of the outer fabric panel; and the bottom edge of the inner fabric panel aligns with the bottom edge of the outer fabric panel. 15. The brassiere of claim 10 , where in the band further comprises a non-pocket section comprising the inner fabric panel. 16. A brassiere comprising: a body defining a lower edge; and a band coupled to the lower edge of the body, the band comprising: a first layer of material, a second layer of material coupled to the first layer of material, and a pocket storage cavity formulated between the first layer of material and the second layer of material. 17. The brassiere of claim 16 , wherein the first layer of material contains a top edge and a bottom edge opposite the top edge, wherein the bottom edge is coupled to the second layer of material, a first portion of the top edge of the first layer of material is coupled to the second layer of material, and a second portion of the top edge of the first layer of material is decoupled from the second layer of material such that the second layer of material and the second portion of the top edge of the first layer of material define an opening that provides access to the pocket storage cavity. 18. The brassiere of claim 17 , wherein the second portion of the top edge of the first layer of material is reconfigurable between a closed configuration, where the opening has a first size, and an open configuration, where the opening has a second size, the second size being larger than the first size. 19. The brassiere of claim 18 , wherein the first layer of material, the second layer of material, or both the first and second layers of material comprise knit fabric possessing stretch and recovery properties. 20. The brassiere of claim 19 , wherein: the first layer of material has an edge that is connected to the lower edge of the body; and the second layer of material has an edge that is connected to the lower edge of the body.
