Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Computer-implemented systems and methods are disclosed to interface with one or more storage devices storing a plurality of documents, wherein each of the plurality of documents is associated with one or more tags of one or more predefined hierarchies of tags, wherein the one or more hierarchies of tags include multiple dimensions. In accordance with some embodiments, a method is provided to identify one or more documents from the data storage devices. The method comprises acquiring, via an interface, a selection of one or more tags of the one or more predefined hierarchies of tags. The method further comprises identifying one or more documents from the data storage devices in response to the selection, the identified one or more documents having tags that have a relationship with the selected tags, and providing data corresponding to the identified documents for displaying in the interface.

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus interfacing with one or more data storage devices storing a plurality of documents, the apparatus comprising: a memory device that stores a set of instructions; and at least one processor capable of executing the set of instructions to: provide, to a recipient, a master ontology defining relationships between artifacts, wherein the master ontology comprises: a plurality of artifacts including links to locations of the plurality of documents in the one or more data storage devices, wherein the artifacts are associated with tags of a plurality of tags each having a tag type; and relationships between the plurality of artifacts, wherein the relationships between artifacts are based on relationships between the tags associated with the plurality of artifacts as defined by a tag hierarchy; receive a modification to a first tag type; determine a set of artifacts for modification, wherein the set of artifacts for modification is associated with tags having the first tag type; and modify the set of artifacts for modification by updating the tags having the first tag type and being associated with the set of artifacts for modification according to the received modification to the first tag type. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein receiving the modification to the first tag type results in a modified master ontology. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is further capable of executing instructions to: determine a time associated with receiving the modification to the first tag type; determine a recipient provided with the master ontology since the time; and provide the recipient with information associated with the modification to the first tag type. 4. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein receiving the modification to the first tag type results in a modified master ontology, and wherein the information associated with the modification to the first tag type includes the modified master ontology. 5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the modification to the first tag type is provided by a user possessing appropriate permissions. 6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a tag is removed from an artifact in response to the modification of the set of artifacts for modification. 7. A method for modifying an ontology, the method comprising: providing, to a recipient, a master ontology defining relationships between artifacts, wherein the master ontology comprises: a plurality of artifacts including links to locations of a plurality of documents in one or more data storage devices, wherein the artifacts are associated with tags of a plurality of tags each having a tag type selected from among a set of tag types; and relationships between the plurality of artifacts, wherein the relationships between artifacts are based on relationships between the tags associated with the plurality of artifacts as defined by a tag hierarchy; receiving a modification to a first tag type; determining a set of artifacts for modification, wherein the set of artifacts for modification is associated with tags having the first tag type; and modifying the set of artifacts for modification by updating the tags having the first tag type and being associated with the set of artifacts for modification according to the received modification to the first tag type. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the modification to the first tag type results in a modified master ontology. 9. The method of claim 7 , further comprising: determining a time associated with the modification to the first tag type; determining a recipient provided with the master ontology since the time; and providing the recipient with information associated with the modification to the first tag type. 10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the modification to the first tag type results in a modified master ontology, and wherein information associated with the modification to the first tag type includes the modified master ontology. 11. The method of claim 7 , wherein the modification to the first tag type is provided by a user possessing appropriate permissions. 12. The method of claim 7 , wherein a tag is removed from an artifact in response to the modification of the set of artifacts for modification. 13. A non-transitory computer readable medium that stores a set of instructions that are executable by at least one processor of an electronic device to cause the electronic device to perform a method for modifying an ontology, the method comprising: providing, to a recipient, a master ontology defining relationships between artifacts, wherein the master ontology comprises: a plurality of artifacts including links to locations of a plurality of documents in one or more data storage devices, wherein the artifacts are associated with tags of a plurality of tags each having a tag type selected from among a set of tag types; and relationships between the plurality of artifacts, wherein the relationships between artifacts are based on relationships between the tags associated with the plurality of artifacts as defined by a tag hierarchy defining; receiving a modification to a first tag type; determining a set of artifacts for modification, wherein the set of artifacts for modification is associated with tags having the first tag type; and modifying the set of artifacts for modification by updating the tags having the first tag type and being associated with the set of artifacts for modification according to the received modification to the first tag type. 14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein receiving the modification to the first tag type results in a modified master ontology. 15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the set of instructions that are executable by the at least one processor of an electronic device to cause the electronic device to further perform: determining a time associated with the modification to the first tag type; determining a recipient provided with the master ontology since the time; and providing the recipient with information associated with the modification to the first tag type. 16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the modification to the first tag type results in a modified master ontology, and wherein information associated with the modification to the first tag type includes the modified master ontology. 17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the modification to the first tag type is provided by a user possessing appropriate permissions.
