Disclosed herein is a catheter pump that includes an expandable cannula and an impeller system. The expandable cannula defines a blood flow channel and includes an impeller blade zone, an inlet zone, and an outlet zone. The catheter pump further includes an impeller system including an impeller body, the impeller system movable relative to the expandable cannula along a longitudinal axis of the catheter pump. The catheter pump is selectively transitionable between a separated configuration in which the impeller body is axially spaced from the expandable cannula along the longitudinal axis, and an operational configuration in which the impeller body is positioned within the impeller blade zone of the expandable cannula.

What is claimed is: 1. A catheter pump comprising: an elongate body having a distal end and a proximal end opposite the distal end; an expandable cannula defining a blood flow channel and comprising an impeller blade zone, an inlet zone provided at a distal end of the impeller blade zone and adapted to securely engage a bearing assembly at the distal end, and an outlet zone at a proximal end of the impeller blade zone; an impeller system comprising an impeller body rotatably coupled to the bearing assembly, the impeller system coupled to a distal portion of a drive shaft that extends through the elongate body, wherein the bearing assembly includes a basket bearing located distal of the impeller body; and an actuator at a proximal end of the drive shaft, the actuator having an input device for selectively transitioning between a separated configuration and an operational configuration, wherein, selecting the operational configuration causes the impeller body to translate proximally along a longitudinal axis such that the impeller body is positioned within the impeller blade zone of the expandable cannula and located axially near the expandable cannula along the longitudinal axis, and the bearing assembly to securely engage the inlet zone of the expandable cannula to secure the impeller system relative to the expandable cannula without being completely disposed within a distal end of the expandable cannula, and wherein, selecting the separated configuration causes the impeller body to translate distally along a longitudinal axis such that the impeller body is positioned out of the impeller blade zone of the expandable cannula. 2. The catheter pump of claim 1 , wherein the inlet zone includes a flared portion adapted to securely engage the bearing assembly. 3. The catheter pump of claim 1 , wherein the basket bearing is a partial basket bearing. 4. The catheter pump of claim 1 , wherein the basket bearing is a full basket bearing. 5. The catheter pump of claim 1 , further comprising a guidewire lumen extending through the impeller body and the basket bearing. 6. The catheter pump of claim 5 , wherein the guidewire lumen extends distally beyond the basket bearing. 7. The catheter pump of claim 1 , wherein the bearing assembly is configured to remain stationary while the impeller body rotates within the expandable cannula. 8. The catheter pump of claim 1 , further comprising an atraumatic tip disposed distal of the impeller body, wherein the atraumatic tip is configured to remain stationary while the impeller body rotates within the expandable cannula. 9. The catheter pump of claim 1 , wherein the bearing assembly engages a flared distal end of the expandable cannula. 10. The catheter pump of claim 1 , wherein, in the separated configuration, the expandable cannula and the impeller body are axially spaced from one another along the longitudinal axis. 11. The catheter pump of claim 1 , wherein the expandable cannula and the impeller body are located at the same axial position along a longitudinal axis. 12. The catheter pump of claim 1 , wherein the actuator includes an slidable impeller anchor and a fixed cannula anchor. 13. The catheter pump of claim 12 , wherein, when transitioning from the separated configuration to the operational configuration, the impeller anchor slides proximally relative to the cannula anchor. 14. The catheter pump of claim 12 , wherein, when transitioning from the operational configuration to the separated configuration, the impeller anchor slides distally relative to the cannula anchor. 15. The catheter pump of claim 12 , wherein the actuator includes a flared portion which is part of the impeller anchor.
