What is claimed is: 1. A negative active material for a rechargeable lithium battery, comprising: a silicon particle core comprising a silicon particle having a particle size in a micrometer range; an oxide layer having a thickness in a range of about 65 nm to about 450 nm, on the silicon particle core; and a conductive layer on the oxide layer, wherein the oxide layer comprises SiO x , 0<x≤2. 2. The negative active material for the rechargeable lithium battery of claim 1 , wherein the silicon particle core has a particle size in a range of about 1 μm to about 10 μm. 3. The negative active material for the rechargeable lithium battery of claim 1 , wherein the oxide layer has a thickness in a range of about 80 nm to about 450 nm. 4. The negative active material for the rechargeable lithium battery of claim 1 , wherein the oxide layer is continuously on a surface of the silicon particle core. 5. The negative active material for the rechargeable lithium battery of claim 1 , wherein the negative active material comprises oxygen at an amount in a range of about 5 wt % to about 20 wt % based on the total of 100 wt % of the negative active material in the negative active material. 6. The negative active material for the rechargeable lithium battery of claim 1 , wherein the conductive layer includes a carbon-based material. 7. The negative active material for the rechargeable lithium battery of claim 6 , wherein the carbon-based material comprises hard carbon, soft carbon, or a combination thereof. 8. A rechargeable lithium battery, comprising: a negative electrode including the negative active material of claim 1 ; a positive electrode; and an electrolyte. 9. The rechargeable lithium battery of claim 8 , wherein the negative electrode further comprises a carbon-based negative active material.
