Official abstract text for this publication.
An abrasive grain is disclosed and may include a body. The body may include a central portion and 3 radial arms extending outwardly from the central portion along the entire length of the central portion of the body. A first radial arm, a second radial arm, and a third radial arm can define a total angle of less than 180 degrees. The body may also include at least one groove extending from a base surface along a first side of the body.

What is claimed is: 1. A shaped abrasive particle comprising: a body having a central portion and at least three radial arms extending outwardly from the central portion along the entire length of the central portion a body, wherein a first radial arm, a second radial arm and a third radial arm define a total angle of less than about 180 degrees; and wherein the body comprises at least one groove extending from a base surface along a first side surface of the body, wherein the body defines a serrated edge. 2. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a fracture region comprising the groove, where the fracture region comprises a surface roughness greater than a surface roughness of the base surface of the body. 3. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a fracture region comprising the groove, where the fracture region is located near the tip of the first radial arm. 4. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a fracture region comprising the groove, where the fracture region extends vertically from a bottom surface of the body for a fraction of the entire height of the side surface of the body. 5. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a fracture region comprising the groove, where the fracture region extends vertically from a bottom surface of the body for the entire height of the side surface of the body. 6. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a curling factor of not greater than about 10, wherein the curling factor is defined as a ratio between a greatest height of the body at one tip of an arm (ht) as compared to a smallest dimension of height of the body at the interior (hi). 7. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the arms comprises a midpoint width that is less than a central portion width. 8. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the first side surface extends between the base surface and an upper surface and wherein the first side surface comprises an arcuate contour. 9. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 7 , wherein the midpoint width is not greater than about 90% of the central width. 10. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 7 , wherein the body comprises a tip width, and wherein the tip width is not greater than about 90% of the midpoint width. 11. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the first arm defines a first arm angle less than about 60 degrees. 12. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the arms define a total angle of less than about 175 degrees. 13. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein each radial arm includes an arrow shaped distal end. 14. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , where the shaped abrasive particle is part of a fixed abrasive article. 15. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 15 , wherein at least one of the arms comprises a midpoint width that is less than a central portion width. 17. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 15 , wherein the first side surface extends between a base surface and an upper surface and wherein the first side surface comprises an arcuate contour. 18. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 15 , wherein the first arm defines a first arm angle less than about 60 degrees. 19. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 15 , wherein the arms define a total angle of less than about 175 degrees. 20. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 15 , where the shaped abrasive particle is part of a fixed abrasive article. 21. A shaped abrasive particle comprising: a body having a central portion and at least three radial arms extending outwardly from the central portion along the entire length of the central portion a body, wherein a first radial arm, a second radial arm and a third radial arm define a total angle of less than about 180 degrees; wherein the body comprises at least one groove extending from a base surface along a first side surface of the body; and wherein the body comprises a fracture region comprising the groove, where the fracture region is located near the tip of the first radial arm. 22.
