Methods and compositions for providing a health benefit to an animal using a nutrient blend. In one embodiment, the method can comprise orally administering a composition comprising at least four of the nutrients selected from the group of walnut, maitake mushroom extract, EGCG, turmeric root powder, lycopene, taurine, EPA, and DHA to the animal.

The invention is claimed as follows: 1. A pet food comprising a nutrient blend and a preservative, wherein the nutrient blend comprises walnut, maitake mushroom extract, EGCG, turmeric root powder, lycopene, taurine, EPA, and DHA; wherein the walnut is present in an amount of 5% to 20% of the pet food, the maitake mushroom extract is present in an amount of 0.0001% to 0.025% of the pet food, the EGCG is present in an amount of 0.01% to 0.5% of the pet food, the turmeric root powder is present in an amount of 1% to 8% of the pet food, the lycopene is present in an amount of 0.001% to 0.01% of the pet food, the taurine is present in an amount of 0.05% to 0.5% of the pet food, the EPA is present in an amount of 0.05% to 2% of the pet food, and the DHA is present in an amount of 0.05% to 2% of the pet food.
