Abstract

A system includes a rule engine to determine details of loyalty reward currency redemption from one or more reward accounts as part of the processing of a payment transaction in a payment account of a user. The redemption details are determined based on user preferences and rules of the loyalty programs, and transmitted to the user during the authorization of the payment transaction. During the authorization and/or within a time window after the authorization, but before the settlement of the payment transaction, the user may provide a confirmation message that may accept, reject, or modify the redemption details. A transaction handler is configured to authorize and/or settle the payment transaction, as modified by the redemption details initially computed by the rule engine and subsequently confirmed, rejected or modified by the user via an optional confirmation message.

First claim

What is claimed is:

1. A method, comprising:
receiving, with at least one processor, an authorization request for a payment transaction involving a payment account of a user from an electronic payment processing network, wherein the authorization request comprises an account identifier of the payment account of the user;
determining, with at least one processor, an offer associated with a loyalty program of a plurality of loyalty programs for the user and details of the offer;
transmitting, with at least one processor, a redemption notification to a computing device, the redemption notification comprising the offer and the details of the offer;
causing, with at least one processor, a user interface to be provided on the computing device, wherein the user interface includes a selectable element to cause the computing device to transmit a confirmation message;
receiving, with at least one processor, the confirmation message from the computing device within a first time period of receiving the authorization request or a second time period that follows the first time period;
adjusting, with at least one processor, the payment transaction based on the details of the offer included in the confirmation message, wherein adjusting the payment transaction comprises:
adjusting the payment transaction by transmitting an authorization response for the authorization request based on the confirmation message when the confirmation message is received within the first time period; and
transmitting the authorization response for the authorization request based on preferences and rules identified in a user profile of the user and adjusting the payment transaction based on the details of the offer during settlement of the payment transaction when the confirmation message is received within the second time period;

receiving, with at least one processor, an authorization response from an issuer processor associated with the payment account of the user; and
processing, with at least one processor, the offer after receiving the authorization response.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the offer is associated with a redemption of loyalty currencies from a reward account of a loyalty program of the plurality of loyalty programs.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
redeeming the loyalty currencies from the reward account of the loyalty program of the plurality of loyalty programs according to the details of the offer and applying the loyalty currencies to the payment transaction.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the redemption notification to the computing device comprises:
transmitting the redemption notification to the computing device via a communication reference of the computing device; and
wherein the computing device comprises a mobile phone and the communication reference includes a phone number of the mobile phone.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selectable element of the user interface is selectable when the redemption notification is presented on the computing device.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the user interface comprises:
another selectable element associated with an option to modify the details of the redemption of loyalty currencies to generate a modified redemption plan.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising, in response to receiving the modified redemption plan within a predetermined time period from transmitting the redemption notification:
redeeming loyalty rewards based on the modified redemption plan; and
applying the loyalty rewards to the payment transaction.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the loyalty rewards are applied to the payment transaction during authorization of the payment transaction.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the loyalty rewards are applied to the payment transaction during settlement of the payment transaction.

10. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
redeeming loyalty rewards from a reward account of a loyalty program of the plurality of loyalty programs according to the details of the offer in response to not receiving the modified redemption plan within a predetermined time period from transmitting the redemption notification; and
applying the loyalty rewards to the payment transaction.

11. A system, comprising:
at least one processor programmed or configured to:
receive an authorization request for a payment transaction involving a payment account of a user from an electronic payment processing network, wherein the authorization request comprises an account identifier of the payment account of the user;
determine an offer associated with a loyalty program of a plurality of loyalty programs for the user and details of the offer;
transmit a redemption notification to a computing device, the redemption notification comprising the offer and the details of the offer;
cause a user interface to be provided on the computing device, wherein the user interface includes a selectable element to cause the computing device to transmit a confirmation message;
receive the confirmation message from the computing device within a first time period of receiving the authorization request or a second time period that follows the first time period;
adjust the payment transaction based on the details of the offer included in the confirmation message, wherein when adjusting the payment transaction, the at least one processor is programed or configured to:
adjust the payment transaction by transmitting an authorization response for the authorization request based on the confirmation message when the confirmation message is received within the first time period; and
transmit an authorization response for the authorization request based on preferences and rules identified in a user profile of the user and adjust the payment transaction based on the details of the offer during settlement of the payment transaction when the confirmation message is received within the second time period;

receive an authorization response from an issuer processor associated with the payment account of the user; and
process the offer after receiving the authorization response.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the offer is associated with a redemption of a loyalty currencies from a reward account of a loyalty program of the plurality of loyalty programs.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the at least one processor is further programmed or configured to:
redeem the loyalty currencies from the reward account of the loyalty program of the plurality of loyalty programs according to the details of the offer and applying the loyalty currencies to the payment transaction.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein, when transmitting the redemption notification to the computing device, the at least one processor is programmed or configured to:
transmit the redemption notification to the computing device via a communication reference of the computing device; and
wherein the computing device comprises a mobile phone and the communication reference includes a phone number of the mobile phone.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the selectable element is selectable when the redemption notification is presented on the computing device.

16. A computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium including one or more instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
