Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A vehicle includes a chassis, a front axle coupled to the chassis, a rear axle coupled to the chassis, and a stability system. The stability system includes a pair of front downriggers coupled to the chassis forward of the front axle and an outrigger assembly coupled to the chassis between the front axle and the rear axle. The outrigger assembly includes a pair of outriggers that are selectively extendable laterally outward at an angle relative to a horizontal.

The invention claimed is: 1. A vehicle comprising: a chassis; a front axle coupled to the chassis; a rear axle coupled to the chassis; and a stability system including: a pair of front downriggers coupled to the chassis forward of the front axle; and an outrigger assembly coupled to the chassis between the front axle and the rear axle, the outrigger assembly including a pair of outriggers that are selectively extendable laterally outward at an angle relative to a horizontal. 2. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each outrigger of the pair of outriggers includes an arm and a support foot, and wherein the arm is selectively extendable laterally outward at a fixed angle. 3. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the angle is a first angle, wherein each outrigger of the pair of outriggers includes an arm and a support foot, and wherein the support foot is extendable at a second angle relative to the arm that is different than the first angle. 4. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the outrigger assembly includes an outrigger housing having a first tube and a second tube, wherein the first tube and the second tube extend laterally across the chassis, and wherein the first tube is oriented at the angle with a positive slope and the second tube in oriented at the angle with a negative slope. 5. The vehicle of claim 4 , wherein the angle is within a range of five to fifteen degrees below the horizontal. 6. The vehicle of claim 4 , wherein the outrigger housing includes a collar positioned to couple proximate ends of the first tube and the second tube together. 7. The vehicle of claim 6 , wherein the collar has a z-shaped structure. 8. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the pair of front downriggers include: a first front downrigger coupled proximate a first lateral side of a front end of the chassis; and a second front downrigger coupled proximate an opposing second lateral side of the front end of the chassis. 9. The vehicle of claim 8 , further comprising a front bumper coupled to the front end of the chassis, wherein the first front downrigger is directly coupled to a first lateral end of the front bumper and the second front downrigger is directly coupled to an opposing second lateral end of the front bumper. 10. The vehicle of claim 8 , wherein the stability system includes: a first bracket coupling the first front downrigger to a first frame rail of the chassis; and a second pivotally coupling the second front downrigger to a second frame rail of the chassis. 11. The vehicle of claim 8 , wherein the first front downrigger and the second front downrigger are selectively pivotable between a first position and a second position. 12. The vehicle of claim 11 , wherein the stability system includes: a first pivot actuator positioned to facilitate pivoting the first front downrigger between the first position and the second position; and a second pivot actuator positioned to facilitate pivoting the second front downrigger between the first position and the second position. 13. The vehicle of claim 11 , further comprising a cabin pivotally coupled to the front end of the chassis, wherein the first front downrigger and the second front downrigger are configured to automatically pivot from the first position to the second position when the cabin of the vehicle is pivoted relative to the front end of the chassis. 14. The vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the stability system includes a pair of rear downriggers coupled the chassis rearward of the rear axle. 15. A vehicle comprising: a chassis; a front axle coupled to the chassis; a rear axle coupled to the chassis; a front bumper coupled to a front end of the chassis; and a stability system including: a first front downrigger directly coupled to a first lateral end of the front bumper; and a second front downrigger directly coupled to an opposing second lateral end of the front bumper. 16. The vehicle of claim 15 , wherein the stability system includes an outrigger assembly coupled to the chassis between the front axle and the rear axle. 17. The vehicle of claim 16 , wherein the outrigger assembly includes a first outrigger and a second outrigger, and wherein each of the first outrigger and the second outrigger includes an arm and a support foot. 18. The vehicle of claim 17 , wherein the arm is selectively extendable laterally and linearly outward from the chassis at an angle relative to a horizontal, and wherein the support foot is selectively extendible vertically downward from an end of the arm. 19. A vehicle comprising: a chassis; a cabin pivotally coupled to the front end of the chassis; a front axle coupled to the chassis; a rear axle coupled to the chassis; and a stability system including: a first front downrigger coupled proximate a first lateral side of a front end of the chassis; a second front downrigger coupled proximate an opposing second lateral side of the front end of the chassis; a first actuator positioned to facilitate pivoting the first front downrigger between a first position and a second position; and a second actuator positioned to facilitate pivoting the second front downrigger between the first position and the second position; wherein the first actuator and the second actuator are configured to pivot the first front downrigger and the second front downrigger, respectively, from the first position to the second position when the cabin is pivoted relative to the front end of the chassis.
