Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An adsorption device for compressed gas, is provided with a vessel with an inlet for the supply of a compressed gas to be treated, and an outlet for treated gas and an adsorption element is affixed in the vessel. The adsorption element extends along the flow direction of the compressed gas to be treated, between the inlet and the outlet. The adsorption element has a monolithic supporting structure that is at least partially provided with a coating that contains an adsorbent.

The invention claimed is: 1. An adsorption device for compressed gas, comprising a vessel with an inlet for the supply of a compressed gas to be treated, and an outlet for treated gas, and an adsorption element affixed in the vessel, wherein the adsorption element extends along a flow direction of the compressed gas to be treated, between the inlet and the outlet, wherein the adsorption element comprises a monolithic supporting structure that is at least partially provided with a coating that contains an adsorbent, and wherein a number of adsorption elements are placed in a series in the vessel along the flow direction of the gas, said adsorption elements are stacked on one another and a seal is provided between every two adsorption elements placed on one another, and wherein the seal is provided with at least one radial lip turned inwards that extends between the adsorption elements. 2. An adsorption device for compressed gas, comprising a vessel with an inlet for the supply of a compressed gas to be treated, and an outlet for treated gas, and an adsorption element affixed in the vessel, wherein the adsorption element extends along a flow direction of the compressed gas to be treated, between the inlet and the outlet, wherein the adsorption element comprises a monolithic supporting structure that is at least partially provided with a coating that contains an adsorbent, and wherein a number of adsorption elements are placed in a series in the vessel along the flow direction of the gas, said adsorption elements are stacked on one another and a seal is provided between every two adsorption elements placed on one another, wherein the seal extends over a respective peripheral edge of the adsorption elements placed on one another, and wherein the seal is provided with at least one radial lip turned inwards that extends between the adsorption elements. 3. The adsorption device according to claim 2 , wherein the monolithic supporting structure comprises one or more of the following materials: ceramic material, metal foil, a fibre structure and a polymer. 4. The adsorption device according to claim 3 , wherein the monolithic supporting structure consists of a ceramic structure that contains cordierite. 5. The adsorption device according to claim 2 , wherein the adsorbent comprises one or more of the following materials: a zeolite, silica gel, activated alumina, activated carbon, metal-organic frameworks, an impregnated adsorbent and a hybrid adsorbent. 6. The adsorption device according to claim 5 , wherein the adsorbent contains a hydrophilic zeolite. 7. The adsorption device according to claim 5 , wherein the adsorbent contains faujasite zeolite type X. 8. The adsorption device according to claim 2 , wherein the seal extends over a respective peripheral edge of the adsorption elements placed on one another. 9. The adsorption device according to claim 2 , wherein a shrink sleeving is affixed over a peripheral wall of at least a part of a stack of adsorption elements. 10. The adsorption device according to claim 9 , wherein the shrink sleeving consists of an elastic material that is not very permeable to gas. 11. The adsorption device according to claim 10 , wherein the shrink sleeving is made of polyolefin. 12. The adsorption device according to claim 2 , wherein the coating further comprises a binder material. 13. The adsorption device according to claim 12 , wherein the binder material comprises one or more of the following inorganic binder materials: colloidal silica; alumina; and/or clay. 14. The adsorption device according to claim 12 , wherein the binder material comprises one or more of the following organic binder materials: methyl cellulose; acrylic resin; and vinyl resins. 15. An adsorption device for compressed gas, comprising a vessel with an inlet for the supply of a compressed gas to be treated, and an outlet for treated gas, and an adsorption element affixed in the vessel, wherein the adsorption element extends along a flow direction of the compressed gas to be treated, between the inlet and the outlet, wherein the adsorption element comprises a monolithic supporting structure that is at least partially provided with a coating that contains an adsorbent, and wherein a number of adsorption elements are placed in a series in the vessel along the flow direction of the gas, said adsorption elements are stacked on one another and a seal is provided between every two adsorption elements placed on one another, wherein the seal extends over a respective peripheral edge of the adsorption elements placed on one another, and wherein the seal is provided with two radial V-shaped lips turned inwards, that extend between the adsorption elements placed on one another. 16. A cartridge consisting of a stack of adsorption elements for an adsorption device for compressed gas, wherein each adsorption element comprises a monolithic supporting structure that is at least partially provided with a coating that contains an adsorbent, wherein said adsorption elements are stacked on one another and whereby a seal is provided between every two adsorption elements placed on one another, and wherein the seal is provided with at least one radial lip turned inwards that extends between the adsorption elements. 17. The cartridge according to claim 16 , wherein a shrink sleeving is affixed over a peripheral wall of at least a part of the stack of adsorption elements. 18. The cartridge according to claim 17 , wherein the shrink sleeving consists of an elastic material that is not very permeable to gas. 19. The cartridge according to claim 17 , wherein the shrink sleeving is made of polyolefin. 20. The cartridge according to 16 , wherein the seal extends over a respective peripheral edge of the adsorption elements placed on one another.
