Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Disclosed herein are various implementations of communications connectors. In some implementations, a communications plug may include a housing and a body positioned in the housing. A flexible printed circuit board (PCB) may be wrapped at least partially around the body, a and a plurality of metal contact pads may be positioned on the flexible PCB to mate with plug interface contacts (PICs) of a communications jack when the communications plug is inserted into the communications jack.

First claim

Opening claim text (preview).

We claim: 1. A communications plug comprising: a plug housing including a protruding shape configured to fit into a receiving opening of a communications jack, the plug housing further including openings at an outer surface of a front end; a body positioned in the housing; a flexible printed circuit board (PCB) wrapped at least partially around the body; and a plurality of metal contact pads included on the flexible PCB and positioned to wrap over a first edge of the body to be accessible through the openings included in the plug housing to communicate with plug interface contacts (PICs) of the communications jack when the communications plug is inserted into the communications jack. 2. The communications plug of claim 1 , wherein the flexible PCB is wrapped around the body such that a first end of the flexible PCB is wrapped over a first edge of the body located at a front end of the body. 3. The communications plug of claim 1 , wherein the first edge of the body is located at a front end of the body. 4. The communications plug of claim 3 , wherein the flexible PCB is wrapped around the body such that a second end of the flexible PCB is wrapped over a second edge of the body located at a back end of the body. 5. The communications plug of claim 1 , further comprising: a plurality of paired electrical contacts included onto a portion of the flexible PCB that is wrapped around a back end of the body. 6. The communications plug of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of paired electrical contacts include four pairs of paired electrical contacts. 7. The communications plug of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of paired electrical contacts are positioned on a portion of the flexible PCB that is wrapped over a rear wall at the back end of the body. 8. The communications plug of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of paired electrical contacts are positioned on a portion of the flexible PCB that is wrapped over a rear wall at the back end of the body and located at a top and a bottom of the rear wall. 9. The communications plug of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of paired electrical contacts are insulation displacement contacts configured to electrically couple traces on the flexible PCB to corresponding wire pairs of a cable that is coupled to the communications plug. 10. The communications plug of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of metal contact pads have an edge radius of approximately 0.020 inches. 11. The communications plug of claim 1 , wherein the body includes at least a wedge-shaped portion.
