Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A knob assembly includes a front panel, a knob located at a front side of the front panel and configured to rotate based on operation by a user, a knob shaft that is coupled to the knob and that extends through the front panel, a supporting pipe that receives the knob shaft and that supports the knob shaft, the supporting pipe being configured to maintain a position relative to the front panel, a valve configured to control supply of gas to the appliance, a valve shaft connected to the valve and configured to control the valve to adjust a flow rate of gas based on rotation of the valve shaft, and a joint that couples the knob shaft to the valve shaft and that is configured to transfer at least one of a rotational motion or a linear motion of the knob shaft to the valve shaft.

What is claimed is: 1. A knob assembly for an appliance, comprising: a knob configured to be rotated and pushed by a user; a shaft configured to be rotated according to rotation of the knob and to be moved in a longitudinal direction of the shaft according to pushed movement of the knob; a valve connected to the shaft and configured to be controlled by the knob via rotation of the shaft; and a knob sensor configured to detect a rotational position of the shaft, the knob sensor comprising: a rotating plate connected to the shaft, configured to rotate with the shaft, and configured to move in the longitudinal direction of the shaft with the shaft; a sensor board that is configured to move relative to the shaft along the longitudinal direction of the shaft, the sensor board comprising a sensor configured to sense rotation of the rotating plate; and a sensor spring configured to apply elastic force to the sensor board to thereby move the sensor board toward the rotating plate in the longitudinal direction of the shaft. 2. The knob assembly of claim 1 , wherein the sensor board maintains a fixed rotational position relative to the shaft during the rotation of the shaft. 3. The knob assembly of claim 1 , wherein the sensor board includes a plurality of sensors arranged on the sensor board about the shaft, and the rotating plate includes a sensor magnet configured to sequentially pass the plurality of sensors arranged on the sensor board based on a rotation of the rotating plate. 4. The knob assembly of claim 1 , wherein the knob sensor further comprises a sensor housing on which the sensor board is mounted, and the sensor board is disposed between the rotating plate and the sensor housing. 5. The knob assembly of claim 4 , wherein the sensor spring is connected to the sensor housing to apply the elastic force to the sensor board. 6. The knob assembly of claim 4 , wherein the sensor housing includes support protrusions that are configured to support a surface of the rotating plate and that space apart the sensor board from the rotating plate to define a gap between the sensor board and the rotating plate. 7. The knob assembly of claim 6 , wherein the sensor board includes support protrusion through holes through which the support protrusions pass. 8. The knob assembly of claim 1 , wherein the shaft passes through the sensor board and the rotating plate. 9. The knob assembly of claim 1 , wherein the knob sensor further comprises a sensor plate which is affixed to an inside of the appliance, and the sensor board is configured to move relative to the sensor plate in the longitudinal direction of the shaft. 10. The knob assembly of claim 9 , wherein the sensor plate is mounted to the valve. 11. The knob assembly of claim 9 , wherein the sensor plate supports the sensor spring. 12. The knob assembly of claim 11 , wherein the sensor spring is disposed between the sensor plate and the sensor board. 13. The knob assembly of claim 9 , wherein the knob sensor further comprises a sensor housing on which the sensor board is mounted, and the sensor housing is disposed between the sensor board and the sensor plate. 14. The knob assembly of claim 13 , wherein the sensor spring is disposed between the sensor plate and the sensor housing. 15. The knob assembly of claim 13 , wherein the sensor plate has a first guide which prevents the sensor board from rotating with the shaft during the rotation of the shaft. 16. The knob assembly of claim 15 , wherein the sensor housing has a second guide which is engaged with the first guide in a rotational direction of the shaft. 17. The knob assembly of claim 9 , wherein the sensor plate has a first guide which prevents the sensor board from rotating with the shaft during the rotation of the shaft. 18. A home appliance, comprising: a panel that defines an outer surface of the home appliance; a knob disposed at an outer side of the panel and configured to be rotated and pushed by a user; a shaft configured to be rotated according to rotation of the knob and to be moved in a longitudinal direction of the shaft according to pushed movement of the knob; a valve connected to the shaft, disposed inside of the home appliance and configured to be controlled by the knob via rotation of the shaft; and a knob sensor configured to detect a rotational position of the shaft, the knob sensor comprising: a sensor plate affixed to an inside of the home appliance; a rotating plate connected to the shaft, configured to rotate with the shaft, and configured to move in the longitudinal direction of the shaft with the shaft; a sensor board that is configured to move relative to the shaft and the sensor plate along the longitudinal direction of the shaft, the sensor board comprising a sensor sensing rotation of the rotating plate; and a sensor spring configured to apply elastic force to the sensor board toward the rotating plate. 19. The home appliance of claim 18 , wherein the knob sensor further comprises a sensor housing on which the sensor board is mounted, the sensor board is disposed between the rotating plate and the sensor housing, and the sensor housing is disposed between the sensor board and the sensor plate. 20. The home appliance of claim 19 , wherein the sensor spring is disposed between the sensor housing and the sensor plate.
