An autonomous floor cleaner can include a housing, a drive system for autonomously moving the housing over the surface to be cleaned, and a controller for controlling the operation of the autonomous floor cleaner. The drive system can include at least one drive wheel for driving the housing across a surface to be cleaned. The drive wheel can be selectively moved from an engaged or in-use position to a disengaged or maintenance position. In the disengaged or maintenance position, the wheel is disengaged from the autonomously moveable housing such that it can be pivoted, extended, removed, or otherwise moved farther away from the autonomously moveable housing.

What is claimed is: 1. An autonomous floor cleaner, comprising: an autonomously moveable housing moveable over a surface to be cleaned, the housing having an underside facing the surface to be cleaned and a lateral side; a controller configured to control the operation of the autonomous floor cleaner; and a drive system carried by the autonomously moveable housing and configured to autonomously move the housing over the surface to be cleaned based on inputs from the controller, the drive system comprising: a drive wheel comprising a tire and a hub; a wheel motor configured to drive the drive wheel about a rotational axis; and an axle coupled with the wheel motor or a transmission coupled with the wheel motor, wherein the drive wheel is removably coupled with the axle for operational engagement with the wheel motor; wherein the drive wheel comprises a manual wheel release inboard of the tire and accessible at the lateral side of the housing, the manual wheel release releasing the drive wheel from operational engagement with the axle; and wherein the drive wheel is exposed at the lateral side of the housing and the drive wheel is axially slidable onto and off of the axle in a direction orthogonal to the lateral side of the housing. 2. The autonomous floor cleaner of claim 1 , wherein the manual wheel release comprises pinch tabs inboard of the tire, the pinch tabs being pinchable together to remove the drive wheel from operational engagement with the axle. 3. The autonomous floor cleaner of claim 2 , wherein the pinch tabs are operably coupled with a mechanical latch interfacing between the axle and the drive wheel, the mechanical latch at least one latching end that selectively engages at least one catch on the axle to secure the drive wheel on the axle. 4. The autonomous floor cleaner of claim 3 , comprising a living hinge coupling the at least one latching end to the pinch tabs, wherein pinching the pinch tabs rotates the living hinge and lifts the at least one latching end away from the at least one catch to disengage the mechanical latch. 5. The autonomous floor cleaner of claim 2 , wherein the drive wheel comprises: a rim holding the tire; and spokes extending from the hub to the rim; wherein the pinch tabs are on the spokes of the drive wheel. 6. The autonomous floor cleaner of claim 5 , wherein the pinch tabs comprise two opposing pinch tabs provided on the hub and lying between two adjacent spokes. 7. The autonomous floor cleaner of claim 2 , wherein the pinch tabs are on the hub of the drive wheel. 8. The autonomous floor cleaner of claim 1 , wherein the housing comprises a wheel well open to the lateral side of the housing and the drive wheel is removable from the wheel well in a direction orthogonal to the lateral side of the housing. 9. The autonomous floor cleaner of claim 1 , wherein the drive system is configured to drive the housing in a direction of forward motion, and wherein the drive wheel is axially slidable onto and off of the axle in a direction orthogonal to the direction of forward motion.
