Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods for use in providing a random reward associated with at least one game are disclosed. One exemplary method includes receiving, by a gaming server, data representative of gaming activity of a player of the at least one game, providing, by the gaming server, a code associated with the random reward, wherein the code is representative of an entry to win the random reward, receiving, by the gaming server, data representative of a text message including the code, determining whether the player won the random reward based on the received code, and providing a notification indicating whether the player won the random reward.

What is claimed is: 1. A gaming server for use in providing a random benefit associated with at least one electronic game, said gaming server comprising at least one processor in communication with a memory, said memory comprising computer-executable instructions configured to cause said at least one processor to: receive, from a gaming machine, electronic inputs corresponding to gaming activity of a player; transmit, to an application installed on a portable computing device of the player, a first code, the application configured to store the first code on the portable computing device, the portable computing device being separate from the gaming machine; transmit, to the gaming machine, in response to the gaming activity, a second code, wherein the gaming machine is configured to display at least one of an alphanumeric code or a bar code in response to receipt of the second code; receive, from the portable computing device, a signal including data representative of the first code and the at least one of the alphanumeric code or the bar code; in response to receiving the signal, determine that the player receives is eligible to receive the random benefit if at least one of the first code and the at least one of the alphanumeric code or the bar code matches a trigger condition for the random benefit, the trigger condition based on a generated random number; and transmit, to the portable computing device, a notification regarding the random benefit in response to determining that the player is eligible to receive the random benefit. 2. The gaming server of claim 1 , wherein the portable computing device is one of a cellular phone and a tablet computing device. 3. The gaming server of claim 1 , wherein the trigger condition is further based on receiving the signal within a predetermined time window. 4. The gaming server of claim 1 , wherein the data representative of the at least one of the alphanumeric code or the bar code is extracted from an image of the at least one of the alphanumeric code or the bar code presented by the gaming machine and scanned by the portable computing device. 5. The gaming server of claim 1 , wherein said computer-executable instructions are further configured to cause said at least one processor to transmit the first code after confirming that the player is registered on a social media site. 6. A computer-implemented method for use in providing a random benefit associated with at least one electronic game, said method comprising: receiving, by a gaming server from a gaming machine, electronic inputs corresponding to gaming activity of a player; transmitting, by the gaming server to an application installed on a portable computing device of the player, a first code, the application configured to store the first code on the portable computing device, the portable computing device being separate from the gaming machine; transmitting, by the gaming server to the gaming machine in response to the gaming activity, a second code, wherein the gaming machine is configured to wirelessly transmit the second code to the application installed on the player communication device, the application configured to store the second code on the player communication device; receiving, by the gaming server from the portable computing device, a signal including data representative of the first code and the second code; in response to receiving the signal, determining, by the gaming server, that the player is eligible to receive the random benefit if at least one of the first code and the second code matches a trigger condition for the random benefit, the trigger condition based on a generated random number; and transmitting, by the gaming server to the portable computing device, a notification regarding the random benefit in response to determining that the player is eligible to receive the random benefit. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the portable computing device is one of a cellular phone and a tablet computing device. 8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the trigger condition is further based on receiving the signal within a predetermined time window. 9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the received data representative of the second code is derived from the wireless transmission and is received from the application executed on the portable computing device. 10. The method of claim 6 , wherein transmitting the first code is performed after confirming, by the gaming server, that the player is registered on a social media site. 11. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising computer-executable instructions embodied thereon for use in providing a random benefit associated with at least one electronic game, wherein when executed by at least one processor of a gaming server, the computer-executable instructions cause the at least one processor to: receive, from a gaming machine, electronic inputs corresponding to gaming activity of a player; transmit, to an application installed on a portable computing device of the player, a first code, the application configured to store the first code on the portable computing device, the portable computing device being separate from the gaming machine; transmit, to the gaming machine in response to the gaming activity, a second code, wherein the gaming machine is configured to display at least one of an alphanumeric code or a bar code in response to receipt of the second code; receive, from the portable computing device, a signal including data representative of the first code and the at least one of the alphanumeric code or the bar code; in response to receiving the signal, determine that the player is eligible to receive the random benefit if at least one of the first code and the at least one of the alphanumeric code or the bar code matches a trigger condition for the random benefit, the trigger condition based on a generated random number; and transmit, to the portable computing device, a notification regarding the random benefit in response to determining that the player is eligible to receive the random benefit. 12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the portable computing device is one of a cellular phone and a tablet computing device. 13. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the trigger condition is further based on receiving the signal within a predetermined time window. 14. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the data representative of the at least one of the alphanumeric code or the bar code is extracted from an image of the at least one of the alphanumeric code or the bar code presented by the gaming machine and scanned by the portable computing device. 15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the computer-executable instructions further cause the at least one processor to transmit the first code after confirming that the player is registered on a social media site.
