Official abstract text for this publication.
An electronic device with a touch screen display displays content of an electronic document, including text, and a cursor is displayed at a line of text within the electronic document. A multi-finger swipe gesture is detected, and in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is in a direction at least partially parallel to the line of text and towards an edge of the touch screen display, the cursor is moved to a distal point of the text.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of cursor manipulation, comprising: at a portable multifunction device including one or more processors, memory, and a touch screen display: displaying text on the display; displaying a cursor at a line of text within the text; detecting a multi-finger swipe gesture on the touch screen display; and in response to detecting the multi-finger swipe gesture: in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is in a direction at least partially parallel to the line of text and towards an edge of the touch screen display, moving the cursor to a distal point of the text without selecting any portion of the line of text. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the multi-finger swipe gesture is a two-finger swipe gesture. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cursor is moved to the distal point of the text without selecting any portion of the line of text in further accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is performed at a speed higher than a predetermined speed; and the method further comprises, in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is in the direction at least partially parallel to the line of text and is performed with a speed that is not higher than the predetermined speed, moving the cursor to the distal point of the text and selecting at least a portion of the line of text. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the distal point of the text is at a location in the direction of the multi-finger swipe gesture. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein moving the cursor to the distal point of the text comprises moving the cursor to a beginning or an end of the line of text in accordance with the direction of the multi-finger swipe gesture. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cursor is moved to the distal point of the text in further accordance with a determination that there is no existing selection of the displayed text when the multi-finger swipe gesture is detected. 7. The method of claim 1 , further including: prior to detecting the multi-finger swipe gesture, detecting a selection of a portion of the displayed text; and in response to detecting the multi-finger swipe gesture and prior to moving the cursor to the distal point of the text, dismissing the selection of the portion of the displayed text. 8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the selection of the portion of the displayed text is dismissed regardless of whether the multi-finger swipe gesture is detected on the selected portion of the displayed text or not on the selected portion of the displayed text. 9. The method of claim 1 , further including: in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is in a direction at least partially perpendicular to the line within the text, moving the cursor to a top or bottom of a page or a document containing the displayed text. 10. An electronic device, comprising: a touch screen display; one or more processors; memory; and one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for: displaying text on the display; displaying a cursor at a line of text within the text; detecting a multi-finger swipe gesture on the touch screen display; and in response to detecting the multi-finger swipe gesture: in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is in a direction at least partially parallel to the line of text and towards an edge of the touch screen display, moving the cursor to a distal point of the text without selecting any portion of the line of text. 11. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the multi-finger swipe gesture is a two-finger swipe gesture. 12. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the cursor is moved to the distal point of the text without selecting any portion of the line of text in further accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is performed at a speed higher than a predetermined speed; and wherein the one or more programs further include instructions for, in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is in the direction at least partially parallel to the line of text and is performed with a speed that is not higher than the predetermined speed, moving the cursor to the distal point of the text and selecting at least a portion of the line of text. 13. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the distal point of the text is at a location in the direction of the multi-finger swipe gesture. 14. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein moving the cursor to the distal point of the text includes moving the cursor to a beginning or an end of the line of text in accordance with the direction of the multi-finger swipe gesture. 15. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the cursor is moved to the distal point of the text in further accordance with a determination that there is no existing selection of the displayed text when the multi-finger swipe gesture is detected. 16. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the one or more programs include instructions for: prior to detecting the multi-finger swipe gesture, detecting a selection of a portion of the displayed text; and in response to detecting the multi-finger swipe gesture and prior to moving the cursor to the distal point of the text, dismissing the selection of the portion of the displayed text. 17. The electronic device of claim 16 , wherein the selection of the portion of the displayed text is dismissed regardless of whether the multi-finger swipe gesture is detected on the selected portion of the displayed text or not on the selected portion of the displayed text. 18. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the one or more programs include instructions for: in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is in a direction at least partially perpendicular to the line within the text, moving the cursor to a top or bottom of a page or a document containing the displayed text. 19. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by an electronic device with a touch screen display, cause the device to: display text on the display; display a cursor at a line of text within the text; detect a multi-finger swipe gesture on the touch screen display; and in response to detecting the multi-finger swipe gesture: in accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is in a direction at least partially parallel to the line of text and towards an edge of the touch screen display, moving the cursor to a distal point of the text without selecting any portion of the line of text. 20. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the multi-finger swipe gesture is a two-finger swipe gesture. 21. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the cursor is moved to the distal point of the text without selecting any portion of the line of text in further accordance with a determination that the multi-finger swipe gesture is performed at a speed higher than a predetermined speed; and wherein the one or more programs further comprise instructions, which when executed by the electronic device, cause the device to move the cursor to the distal point of the text and selecting
