The invention claimed is: 1. An oil pan for forming a lower end part of an internal combustion engine, comprising a bottom wall, and a side wall extending from a peripheral edge of the bottom wall, wherein the bottom wall includes a shallow bottom wall extending in a lateral direction and located on a first side of the bottom wall with respect to the lateral direction, a deep bottom wall located on a second side of the bottom wall with respect to the lateral direction and is offset downwardly relative to the shallow wall, and a connecting wall located between the shallow bottom wall and the deep bottom wall and slanting downward from the shallow bottom wall to the deep bottom wall, and wherein the side wall includes a first side wall located on a front side of the bottom wall and a second side wall located on a rear side of the bottom wall, the connecting wall being provided with a first rib consisting of a single continuous rib, extending in a fore and aft direction and connecting the first side wall and the second side wall to each other, fore and aft end portions of the first rib project upward from the connecting wall, an intermediate portion of the first rib projects toward the second side in the lateral direction of the bottom wall, a projecting direction of the first rib progressively changes toward the upward direction from the intermediate portion to the fore and aft end portions, a projecting end of the laterally intermediate portion of the first rib is positioned below a surface of the shallow bottom wall, and the first rib is bounded from the connecting wall by an upper boundary and a lower boundary, and the intermediate portion of the first rib slants downward from the upper boundary to the projecting end thereof. 2. The oil pan according to claim 1 , wherein the intermediate portion of the first rib protrudes from the connecting wall less than two end portions thereof with respect to the fore and aft direction. 3. The oil pan according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first side wall and the second side wall is provided with a plurality of bolt receiving portions each having a hole through which a bolt is threaded into a corresponding threaded hole of a cylinder block of the internal combustion engine, and the fore end portion of the first rib and a second end portion of a second rib are connected to one of the bolt receiving portions provided in the first side wall and to one of the bolt receiving portions provided in the second side wall, respectively. 4. The oil pan according to claim 1 , wherein the first rib projects progressively less from each end portion to the intermediate portion along the fore and aft direction in a continuous manner. 5. The oil pan according to claim 1 , wherein the first rib projects progressively less from each end portion to the intermediate portion along the fore and aft direction in a stepwise manner. 6. The oil pan according to claim 1 , wherein the connecting wall has a curved surface portion having a convex side facing toward the second side in the lateral direction, and the first rib passes through the curved surface portion. 7. The oil pan according to claim 1 , wherein the deep bottom wall is provided with a second rib projecting upward, and one end of the second rib is connected to the connecting wall. 8. The oil pan according to claim 7 , wherein the second rib extends in the lateral direction, and projects by a progressively increasing amount toward the connecting wall.
