Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A process cartridge comprises a photosensitive drum and a developing roller. A coupling member is provided adjacent to one axial end of the developing roller. The coupling member includes a driven portion, and an intermediary portion configured and positioned to engage with the driven portion. The intermediary portion is also configured to be movable relative to the driven portion in a direction crossing the axis of the developing roller while maintaining engagement with the driven portion. The coupling member further includes a driving portion configured and positioned to receive a driving force for rotating the developing roller. The driving portion is also configured to engage with the intermediary portion, and to be movable relative to the intermediary portion in a direction crossing the axis of the developing roller while maintaining engagement with the intermediary portion.

What is claimed is: 1. A process cartridge comprising: (i) a photosensitive drum; (ii) a developing roller configured and positioned to develop an electrostatic latent image formed on the photosensitive drum; (iii) a coupling member operatively connected to the developing roller, the coupling member including: (iii-i) a driving force receiving portion configured and positioned to receive a driving force for rotating the developing roller; and (iii-ii) a driving force transmitting portion configured and positioned to transmit the driving force from the driving force receiving portion toward the developing roller, the driving force receiving portion being movable relative to the driving force transmitting portion in a direction crossing an axis of the driving force receiving portion; and (iv) a retaining portion having an opening, wherein the driving force receiving portion is arranged inside of the opening, and an inner diameter of the opening is larger than an outer diameter of the driving force receiving portion. 2. A process cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the coupling member includes an intermediate portion configured and positioned to transmit the driving force from the driving force receiving portion to the driving force transmitting portion, and wherein the driving force receiving portion is movable relative to the intermediate portion, and the intermediate portion is movable relative to the driving force transmitting portion. 3. A process cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the coupling member is an Oldham coupling. 4. A process cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a drum coupling member operatively connected to the photosensitive drum. 5. A process cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a supplying roller configured and positioned to supply developer to the developing roller. 6. A process cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the developing roller is movable between a contact position in which the developing roller contacts the photosensitive drum, and a spaced position in which the developing roller is spaced from the photosensitive drum. 7. A process cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the process cartridge is configured and positioned such that a position of the driving force receiving portion relative to the driving force transmitting portion changes in response to movement of the developing roller relative to the photosensitive drum. 8. A process cartridge comprising: (i) a photosensitive drum; (ii) a developing roller configured and positioned to develop an electrostatic latent image formed on the photosensitive drum; (iii) a coupling member operatively connected to the developing roller, the coupling member including: (iii-i) a driving force receiving portion configured and positioned to receive a driving force for rotating the developing roller; and (iii-ii) a driving force transmitting portion configured and positioned to transmit the driving force from the driving force receiving portion toward the developing roller, the driving force receiving portion being movable relative to the driving force transmitting portion in a direction crossing an axis of the driving force receiving portion; and (iv) a retaining portion having an opening, wherein the driving force receiving portion is arranged inside of the opening with a gap between the driving force receiving portion and a surface forming the opening. 9. A process cartridge according to claim 8 , wherein the coupling member includes an intermediate portion configured and positioned to transmit the driving force from the driving force receiving portion to the driving force transmitting portion, and wherein the driving force receiving portion is movable relative to the intermediate portion, and the intermediate portion is movable relative to the driving force transmitting portion. 10. A process cartridge according to claim 8 , wherein the coupling member is an Oldham coupling. 11. A process cartridge according to claim 8 , further comprising a drum coupling member operatively connected to the photosensitive drum. 12. A process cartridge according to claim 8 , further comprising a supplying roller configured and positioned to supply developer to the developing roller. 13. A process cartridge according to claim 8 , wherein the developing roller is movable between a contact position in which the developing roller contacts the photosensitive drum, and a spaced position in which the developing roller is spaced from the photosensitive drum. 14. A process cartridge according to claim 8 , wherein the process cartridge is configured and positioned such that a position of the driving force receiving portion relative to the driving force transmitting portion changes in response to movement of the developing roller relative to the photosensitive drum. 15. A process cartridge comprising: (i) a photosensitive drum; (ii) a developing roller configured and positioned to develop an electrostatic latent image formed on the photosensitive drum; (iii) a coupling member operatively connected to the developing roller, the coupling member including: (iii-i) a driving force receiving portion configured and positioned to receive a driving force for rotating the developing roller; and (iii-ii) a driving force transmitting portion configured and positioned to transmit the driving force from the driving force receiving portion toward the developing roller, the driving force receiving portion being movable relative to the driving force transmitting portion in a direction crossing an axis of the driving force receiving portion; and (iv) a retaining portion having an opening, wherein the driving force receiving portion is arranged inside of the opening, and the driving force receiving portion is movable relative to the opening in a direction crossing an axis of the driving force receiving portion. 16. A process cartridge according to claim 15 , wherein the coupling member includes an intermediate portion configured and positioned to transmit the driving force from the driving force receiving portion to the driving force transmitting portion, and wherein the driving force receiving portion is movable relative to the intermediate portion, and the intermediate portion is movable relative to the driving force transmitting portion. 17.
