Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A secondary device receives presence information for a content item that is synchronized by a content management system with the secondary device and with a primary device. If a user of the primary device is present as indicated by the presence information, a collaboration element is displayed on the secondary device. Responsive to a user input at the collaboration element, a collaboration request is sent to the primary device, and collaboration information enabling collaborative interaction with an instance of the content item on the primary device is received.

What is claimed is: 1. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a computing system, cause the computing system to perform operations comprising: generating for display using a second device a selectable collaboration option that, when selected, triggers a sending of a collaboration request to a first device to collaborate on editing a collaborative content item with a user of the second device; responsive to receiving user input comprising a selection of the selectable collaboration option, outputting a prompt comprising a plurality of selectable options each corresponding to a different version of the collaborative content item to be used during collaboration, wherein the plurality of selectable options includes an option corresponding to a changed version of the collaborative content item and an option corresponding to an unchanged version of the collaborative content item; responsive to receiving a selection of a selectable option of the plurality of selectable options, sending a collaboration request to the first device, the collaboration request corresponding to a collaboration on the changed version of the collaborative content item or the unchanged version of the collaborative content item based on the selection of the option corresponding to the changed version or the option corresponding to the unchanged version, respectively; and generating for display, by the second device within a user interface window of the second device, an interface portion that at least in part reflects a user interface window of the first device and includes an instance of the collaborative content item on the first device, the collaborative content item on the first device reflecting the version corresponding to the selected option. 2. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the selectable collaboration option is displayed in response to detecting a presence of a user of the first device on the collaborative content item. 3. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the interface portion is configured to display one or more interactions by a user of the first device with the collaborative content item. 4. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , the operations further comprising: receiving, at the second device, from the first device, a prompt to allow the second device to provide input to the first device in relation to the collaborative content item. 5. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 4 , the operations further comprising: receiving, at the second device, a user input to accept the prompt to allow the second device to provide input to the first device in relation to the collaborative content item; and sending, from the second device to the first device, an input specifying an interaction with the collaborative content item, the input received from a user of the second device, wherein the first device updates the instance of the collaborative content item on the first device according to the input. 6. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the collaborative content item, in response to being updated on the first device, is synchronized with the content management system and the second device. 7. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein a collaboration element identifies one or more of the first device, a user of the first device, and a user account associated with the first device. 8. A method comprising: transmitting a request to a second device to display a selectable collaboration option that, when selected, triggers a sending of a collaboration request to a first device to collaborate on editing a collaborative content item with a user of the second device; responsive to detecting user input provided at the second device and comprising a selection of the selectable collaboration option, causing the second device to display a prompt comprising a plurality of selectable options each corresponding to a different version of the collaborative content item to be used during collaboration, wherein the plurality of selectable options includes an option corresponding to a changed version of the collaborative content item and an option corresponding to an unchanged version of the collaborative content item; responsive to detecting a selection of a selectable option of the plurality of selectable options, sending a collaboration request to the first device, the collaboration request corresponding to a collaboration on the changed version of the collaborative content item or the unchanged version of the collaborative content item based on the selection of the option corresponding to the changed version or the option corresponding to the unchanged version, respectively; and causing the second device to display, within a user interface window of the second device, an interface portion that at least in part reflects a user interface window of the first device and includes an instance of the collaborative content item on the first device, the collaborative content item on the first device reflecting the version corresponding to the selected option. 9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the selectable collaboration option is displayed in response to detecting a presence of a user of the first device on the collaborative content item. 10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the interface portion is configured to display one or more interactions by a user of the first device with the collaborative content item. 11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: receiving, at the second device, from the first device, a prompt to allow the second device to provide input to the first device in relation to the collaborative content item. 12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: receiving, at the second device, a user input to accept the prompt to allow the second device to provide input to the first device in relation to the collaborative content item; and coordinating, from the second device to the first device, an input specifying an interaction with the collaborative content item, the input received from a user of the second device, wherein the first device updates the instance of the collaborative content item on the first device according to the input. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the collaborative content item, in response to being updated on the first device, is synchronized with the content management system and the second device. 14. The method of claim 8 , wherein a collaboration element identifies one or more of the first device, a user of the first device, and a user account associated with the first device. 15. A system comprising: at least one hardware processor; and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing executable computer instructions that, when executed by the at least one hardware processor, are configured to cause the at least one hardware processor to perform operations comprising: transmitting a request to a second device to display a selectable collaboration option that, when selected, triggers a sending of a collaboration request to a first device to collaborate on editing a collaborative content item with a user of the second device; responsive to detecting user input provided at the second device and comprising a selection of the selectable collaboration option, causing the second device to display a prompt comprising a plurality of selectable options each corresponding to a different version of the collaborative content item to be used during collaboration, wherein the plurality of selectable options includes an option corresponding
