A method of customizing a golf club, wherein the method includes generating operating data representative of a user operating a mechanical device. The operating data is generated by a first sensor sized and configured to be removably positioned in a mounting port formed on the mechanical device during operation of the mechanical device. The sensor is interchangeably positionable in the mounting port with at least one mass insert, the at least one mass insert being adapted to be interchangeably positioned in the mounting to provide at least two different mass configurations. The method further includes determining a recommended configuration of the at least one mass insert specific to the user based on the operating data generated by the sensor, and transmitting information representative of the recommended mass insert.

What is claimed is: 1. A golf club head comprising: a crown; a sole opposite the crown; a heel; a toe opposite the heel; a striking face; a rear opposite the striking face; a mounting port that extends internally through the golf club head and includes a forward end proximate the striking face and a rear opening proximate the rear, a port axis defined by the mounting port being angularly offset from the striking face; and an insert that is sized and configured to be removably insertable through the rear opening, the insert comprising: a plurality of threaded recesses; and a weight element having a threaded shaft that is configured to be removably securable within each of the plurality of recesses. 2. The golf club head of claim 1 , further comprising a fastener for securing the insert to the head. 3. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the insert includes a resilient coating. 4. The golf club head of claim 3 , wherein the resilient coating comprises a soft polymer. 5. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the insert is prismatic in shape and includes a plurality of side walls that extend from the forward end to the rear opening. 6. The golf club head of claim 5 , wherein the threaded recesses are located on each of the plurality of side walls. 7. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the insert further comprises a sensor. 8. The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein the sensor includes an accelerometer. 9. The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein the sensor includes a gyroscope. 10. The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein the sensor is removably securable within each of the plurality of threaded recesses. 11. A golf club head comprising: a crown; a sole opposite the crown; a heel portion; a toe portion opposite the heel portion; a striking face; a rear opposite the striking face; a mounting port that defines a port axis and extends internally through the golf club head from a rear opening to a forward end in the toe portion adjacent to the striking face, the port axis being angularly offset from the striking face; an insert that is sized and configured to be removably insertable through the rear opening, the insert comprising: a forward end bore; a plurality of recesses; and at least two weight elements that are removably securable within each of the plurality of recesses; and a fastener that is screwed into the forward end bore and secures the insert within the golf club head. 12. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the insert includes a resilient coating. 13. The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the resilient coating comprises a soft polymer. 14. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the insert is prismatic in shape and includes a plurality of side walls that extend from the forward end to the rear opening. 15. The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein the recesses are located on each of the plurality of side walls. 16. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the insert further comprises a sensor. 17. The golf club head of claim 16 , wherein the sensor includes an accelerometer. 18. The golf club head of claim 16 , wherein the sensor includes a gyroscope. 19. The golf club head of claim 16 , wherein the sensor is removably securable within each of the plurality of recesses.
