Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A stent delivery system including an elongate shaft of a medical device, a stent selectively coupled to a distal portion of the elongate shaft, and a coupling mechanism for selectively coupling the stent to the elongate shaft by inserting a tab on one of the stent or the elongate shaft into an opening in the other of the stent or the elongate shaft. The tab may be deflected from a first position to a second position to disengage the tab from the opening.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A stent delivery system comprising: a drainage stent having a proximal end, a distal end, and lumen extending therethrough, the drainage stent including a flap along a length of a tubular wall of the drainage stent; and a pull wire extending distally from a handle assembly, the pull wire having an engagement member at a distal end of the pull wire extending to the drainage stent; wherein the engagement member is configured to selectively couple to the drainage stent between the flap and the tubular wall, wherein the engagement member extends transversely across the flap. 2. The stent delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the flap comprises base connected to the tubular wall and a distal free tip extending from the base. 3. The stent delivery system of claim 2 , wherein the engagement member is coupled to the drainage stent between the base and the distal free tip. 4. The stent delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the engagement member is coupled to the drainage stent radially inward of the flap. 5. The stent delivery system of claim 1 , wherein the engagement member has a hook, tab, or non-longitudinally bent shape. 6. The stent delivery system of claim 1 , wherein an outer surface of the flap is continuous with an outer surface of the tubular wall. 7. The stent delivery system of claim 1 , further comprising a push catheter over a proximal portion of the drainage stent and the flap. 8. The stent delivery system of claim 1 , wherein flap extends radially outward away from the lumen from the tubular wall of the drainage stent. 9. A stent delivery system comprising: a drainage stent including a tubular member having a proximal end, a distal end, and lumen extending therethrough, the drainage stent including a flap extending radially outward from the lumen from an outer wall of the tubular member of the drainage stent; and a pull wire extending distally from a handle assembly and extending along the outer wall of the tubular member, the pull wire having an engagement member at a distal end of the pull wire positioned at least partially inside of the outer wall of the tubular member; wherein the engagement member is positioned at least partially inside of the outer wall in a first position to selectively couple the drainage stent to the pull wire, wherein the engagement member is movable from the first position to a second position, wherein the engagement member extends across the flap in the first position. 10. The stent delivery system of claim 9 , wherein the engagement member is proximal to the flap in the second position. 11. The stent delivery system of claim 9 , wherein the flap comprises base connected to the tubular wall and a distal free tip extending from the base. 12. The stent delivery system of claim 11 , wherein the engagement member is coupled to the drainage stent between the base and the distal free tip in the first position. 13. A stent delivery system comprising: a push catheter having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therethrough; a drainage stent extending from a distal portion of the push catheter, the drainage stent including a flap along a length of a tubular wall of the drainage stent; and a pull wire extending distally from a handle assembly, the pull wire having a distal engagement portion configured to selectively couple to the drainage stent between the flap and tubular wall, wherein the distal engagement portion extends transversely across the flap. 14. The stent delivery system of claim 13 , wherein the distal engagement portion of the pull wire is movable between a first position and a second position. 15. The stent delivery system of claim 14 , wherein the distal engagement portion engages the flap in the first position and the distal engagement portion disengages the flap in the second position. 16. The stent delivery system of claim 13 , wherein the flap comprises base connected to the tubular wall and a distal free tip extending from the base. 17. The stent delivery system of claim 13 , wherein the pull wire extends between the tubular wall and the push catheter.
