Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide for methods of making quantum dots (QDs) (passivated or unpassivated) using a continuous flow process, systems for making QDs using a continuous flow process, and the like. In one or more embodiments, the QDs produced using embodiments of the present disclosure can be used in solar photovoltaic cells, bio-imaging, IR emitters, or LEDs.

First claim

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of fabricating a device, comprising: (a) mixing a solution A comprising solutes of precursor A with a solution B comprising solutes of precursor B to form a solution C, wherein the solutions A and B further comprise an inert immiscible fluid; (b) flowing the solution C into a nucleating coil at a first temperature to produce QD seeds; (c) flowing the solution C containing the QD seeds into a growth coil to grow the QDs at a second temperature, wherein the second temperature is lower than the first temperature and steps (b) and (c) are independently performed, and wherein the growth coil is directly attached to the nucleating coil; and (d) fabricating a device comprising the QDs from step (c). 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is a solar photovoltaic cell. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is a light emitting diode (LED) display. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is an infrared detector. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is a UV-vis detector. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is an infrared emitter. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is a bio-imaging device. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is an imaging device.
