Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems, devices, apparatuses, components, methods, and techniques for media content playback during travel are provided. An example method a method of generating a playlist trailer for a media playback device, the method comprising: identifying a plurality of media content items from a playlist for inclusion in a playlist trailer identifying snippets from the identified plurality of media content items; and combining the identified snippets to generate a playlist trailer.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A method for playing media content from a playlist, the method comprising: generating playlist trailers for a plurality of playlists, respectively, by, for each of the plurality of playlists: identifying a plurality of media content items from the playlist; identifying snippets from the identified plurality of media content items, the snippets having snippet durations less than durations of the identified plurality of media content items, respectively; combining the identified snippets to generate a playlist trailer; generating a user interface displaying a first card including a first graphical element representing a first playlist; receiving a user input to switch from the first playlist to a second playlist from the plurality of playlists; and upon receiving the user input to switch from the first playlist to the second playlist, automatically: displaying in the user interface a second card including a second graphical element representing the playlist trailer of the second playlist; while the second card is displayed, providing the playlist trailer of the second playlist to cause automatic playback of the snippets of the playlist trailer of the second playlist in succession; and upon completion of the playback of the playlist trailer of the second playlist, and without further user input, displaying in the user interface, a third card including a third graphical element representing the second playlist and while the third card is displayed, beginning the playback of the second playlist. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating the snippets from all the plurality of media content items in the playlist. 3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating the snippets from a subset of the plurality of media content items in the playlist. 4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising selecting the subset using one or more machine learning techniques. 5. The method of claim 3 , further comprising selecting the subset randomly. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting each of the plurality of snippets based upon a location of a hook in each of the plurality of media content items. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting each of the plurality of snippets based upon a predetermined portion at a beginning of each of the plurality of media content items. 8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting each of the plurality of snippets of a uniform duration. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting each of the plurality of snippets of a varying duration based upon a duration of a hook in each of the plurality of media content items. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second graphical element includes a mosaic of graphical elements associated with at least some of the snippets of the playlist trailer of the second playlist. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second graphical element is different than the third graphical element. 12. A media playback device comprising: an audio output device for media playback; a touch-sensitive display; a processor; a computer-readable storage device storing data instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to: generate playlist trailers for a plurality of playlists, respectively, by, for each of the plurality of playlists: identifying a plurality of media content items from the playlist; identifying snippets from the identified plurality of media content items, the snippets having snippet durations less than durations of the identified plurality of media content items, respectively; combining the identified snippets to generate a playlist trailer; generate a user interface displaying a first card including a first graphical element representing a first playlist; receive a user input to select the first playlist from the plurality of playlists; receive a user input to switch from the first playlist to a second playlist from the plurality of playlists; and upon receiving the user input to switch from the first playlist to the second playlist, automatically: display in the user interface a second card including a second graphical element representing the playlist trailer of the second playlist; while the second card is displayed, provide the playlist trailer of the second playlist to cause automatic playback of the snippets of the playlist trailer of the second playlist in succession; and upon completion of the playback of the playlist trailer of the second playlist, and without further user input, displaying in the user interface, a third card including a third graphical element representing the second playlist and while the third card is displayed, beginning the playback of the second playlist. 13. The media playback device of claim 12 , wherein the data instructions further cause the processor to generate the snippets from all the plurality of media content items in the playlist. 14. The media playback device of claim 12 , wherein the data instructions further cause the processor to generate the snippets from a subset of the plurality of media content items in the playlist. 15. The media playback device of claim 14 , wherein the data instructions further cause the processor to select the subset using one or more machine learning techniques. 16. The media playback device of claim 14 , wherein the data instructions further cause the processor to select the subset randomly. 17. The media playback device of claim 12 , wherein the data instructions further cause the processor to select each of the plurality of snippets based upon a location of a hook in each of the plurality of media content items. 18. The media playback device of claim 12 , wherein the data instructions further cause the processor to select each of the plurality of snippets based upon a predetermined portion at a beginning of each of the plurality of media content items. 19. The media playback device of claim 12 , wherein the data instructions further cause the processor to select each of the plurality of snippets of a uniform duration. 20. The media playback device of claim 12 , wherein the data instructions further cause the processor to select each of the plurality of snippets of a varying duration based upon a duration of a hook in each of the plurality of media content items. 21. A non-transitory computer-readable storage device storing data instructions, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to: generate playlist trailers for a plurality of playlists, respectively, by, for each of the plurality of playlists: identifying a plurality of media content items from the playlist; identifying snippets from the identified plurality of media content items, the snippets having snippet durations less than durations of the identified plurality of media content items, respectively; combining the identified snippets to generate a playlist trailer; generating a user interface displaying a first card including a first graphical element representing a first playlist; receive a user input to select the first playlist from the plurality of playlists; receive a user input to switch from the first playlist to a second playlist from the plurality of playlists; and upon receiving the user input to switch from the first playlist to the second playlist, automatically: displaying in the user interface a second card including a second graphical element representing the playlist trailer of the second playlist; while the second card is di
