The invention is claimed as follows: 1. A gaming system comprising: a processor; and a memory device storing a plurality of instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to: cause a first communication of data which results in a display device of a mobile player station displaying: a wager opportunity on a play of a game occurring within a gaming establishment, and an amount of time remaining in a predefined participation period associated with the wager opportunity on the play of the game, receive wagering data associated with an input made via an input device of the mobile player station to place a wager on the wager opportunity on the play of the game occurring within the gaming establishment, and responsive to a receipt of the wagering data prior to a termination of the predefined participation period: cause a second communication of data which results in the display device of the mobile player station displaying an outcome of the play of the game occurring within the gaming establishment, the outcome of the play of the game being determined separate from the processor, and cause a third communication of data which results in the display device of the mobile player station displaying any award determined based on the wager placed and the outcome of the play of the game. 2. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the outcome of the play of the game occurring within the gaming establishment is determined independent of the receipt of the wagering data. 3. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the mobile player station is any of a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant, and a wireless game player. 4. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the game is played in association with a gaming table within the gaming establishment. 5. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the game is any of a blackjack game, a poker game, a roulette game, a baccarat game and a craps game. 6. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein when executed by the processor, the instructions cause the processor to cause a fourth communication of data which results in the display device of the mobile player station displaying a sporting event. 7. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein when executed by the processor, the instructions cause the processor to cause a fourth communication of data which results in the display device of the mobile player station displaying a plurality of different wager opportunities on a plurality of plays of a plurality of different games occurring within the gaming establishment. 8. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein when executed by the processor, the instructions cause the processor to cause a fourth communication of data which results in a display segment of a display device displaying the outcome of the play of the game occurring within the gaming establishment, said display segment of the display device being separate from the mobile player station. 9. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the processor and the mobile player station communicate over a wireless data network. 10. A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising: causing, by a processor, a first communication of data that results in a display device of a mobile player station displaying: a wager opportunity on a play of a game occurring within a gaming establishment, and an amount of time remaining in a predefined participation period associated with the wager opportunity on the play of the game, receiving wagering data associated with an input made via an input device of the mobile player station to place a wager on the wager opportunity on the play of the game occurring within the gaming establishment, and responsive to a receipt of the wagering data prior to a termination of the predefined participation period: causing, by the processor, a second communication of data that results in the display device of the mobile player station displaying an outcome of the play of the game occurring within the gaming establishment, the outcome of the play of the game being determined separate from the processor, and causing, by the processor, a third communication of data that results in the display device of the mobile player station displaying any award determined based on the wager placed and the outcome of the play of the game. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the outcome of the play of the game occurring within the gaming establishment is determined independent of the receipt of the wagering data. 12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the mobile player station is at any of a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant, and a wireless game player. 13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the game is played in association with a gaming table within the gaming establishment. 14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the game is any of a blackjack game, a poker game, a roulette game, a baccarat game and a craps game. 15. The method of claim 10 , further comprising causing, by the processor, a fourth communication of data that results in the display device of the mobile player station displaying a sporting event. 16. The method of claim 10 , further comprising causing, by the processor, a fourth communication of data that results in the display device of the mobile player station displaying a plurality of different wager opportunities on a plurality of plays of a plurality of different games occurring within the gaming establishment. 17. The method of claim 10 , further comprising causing, by the processor, a fourth communication of data that results in a display segment of a display device displaying the outcome of the play of the game occurring within the gaming establishment, said display segment of the display device being separate from the mobile player station. 18. The method of claim 10 , which is at least partially provided through a data network selected from the group consisting of: an internet and a wireless data network.
