Various example embodiments relate to a filtration system. The filtration system comprises a housing having a first housing end and a second housing end. The housing defines a central compartment therein. The housing comprises a key slot disposed on the first housing end and a housing key element protruding from the first housing end toward the second housing end. The filtration system further comprises a filter element positioned within the central compartment of the housing. The filter element has a first filter end and a second filter end. The filter element includes filter media and an endplate disposed on the first filter end. The endplate includes a central endplate opening, a key element configured for engagement with the key slot, and an installation guidance element formed along the central endplate opening. The installation guidance element is configured for engagement with the housing key element.

What is claimed is: 1. A filtration system, comprising: a housing having a first housing end and a second housing end, the housing defining a central compartment therein, the housing comprising a housing baseplate defining a key slot, the first housing end and the housing baseplate together defining an open cavity; and a filter element positioned within the central compartment of the housing, the filter element having a first filter end and a second filter end, the filter element comprising: filter media; and an endplate disposed on the first filter end, the endplate comprising: a key element configured for engagement with the key slot; and a T-shaped installation guidance element extending from the endplate away from the filter media, the T-shaped installation guidance element configured for location within the open cavity without contacting the housing when the filter element is properly installed within the housing and configured for contact with the housing baseplate when the filter element is not properly installed within the housing, the T-shaped installation guidance element comprising a first lateral protrusion, a second lateral protrusion, and a longitudinal protrusion, the longitudinal protrusion perpendicular to an intersection of the first lateral protrusion and the second lateral protrusion, wherein engagement of the first housing end and the second housing end occurs when the T-shaped installation guidance element is disposed within the open cavity, and the engagement of the first housing end and the second housing end is prevented from occurring when the T-shaped installation guidance element is not disposed within the open cavity. 2. The filtration system of claim 1 , wherein a length of the first lateral protrusion and the second lateral protrusion is greater than a length of the longitudinal protrusion. 3. The filtration system of claim 1 , wherein the endplate includes a central opening. 4. The filtration system of claim 3 , wherein a groove is defined on an outer surface of the central opening, the groove configured to receive a sealing member. 5. The filtration system of claim 3 , wherein the key element is disposed on a surface of the endplate from which the T-shaped installation guidance element extends. 6. The filtration system of claim 5 , wherein the key element extends radially away from an outer surface of the central opening. 7. The filtration system of claim 6 , wherein an axial height of the key element is less than an axial height of the central opening. 8. The filtration system of claim 3 , wherein the key element is disposed 180 degrees opposite the T-shaped installation guidance element. 9. The filtration system of claim 3 , wherein the key element comprises a pair of protrusions extending radially outwards from a base of the central opening. 10. The filtration system of claim 9 , wherein the pair of protrusions are disposed adjacent to each other and separated by a gap. 11. The filtration system of claim 1 , wherein each of the first lateral protrusion and the second lateral protrusion have a height that is equal to a height of the longitudinal protrusion. 12. The filtration system of claim 1 , wherein: the first lateral protrusion and the second lateral protrusion form a flat surface; and the longitudinal protrusion is opposite the flat surface. 13. The filtration system of claim 1 , wherein the T-shaped installation guidance element is asymmetric about a plane along which the first lateral protrusion extends.
