Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A mounting device including a base having an open bottom, a longitudinal axis, and a linear guide on the base. The linear guide guides support hardware in linear movement along the longitudinal axis. An internal cavity is under the base for containing a sealant against and in cooperation with a roof when the mounting device is secured to the roof. An opening is though the base is for receiving a fastener when the mounting device is secured to the roof. The opening is in communication with the internal cavity. The linear guide extends beyond the internal cavity.

What is claimed is: 1. A mounting device comprising: a base including an open bottom, and a guide on the base, the guide for guiding support hardware in linear movement along a length of the guide; an internal cavity within the base for containing a sealant against a roof when the mounting device is secured to the roof; an opening through the base for receiving a fastener when the mounting device is secured to the roof, the opening in communication with the internal cavity and located adjacent a first side of the guide; and a port via which the sealant is injectable, the port located on a second side of the guide opposite the first side, wherein the guide extends beyond the internal cavity. 2. The mounting device of claim 1 , further comprising a vent formed through the base and in communication with the internal cavity. 3. The mounting device of claim 2 , wherein the port and the vent flank the opening. 4. The mounting device of claim 3 , further comprising sealant guides disposed between the port and the vent. 5. The mounting device of claim 1 , further comprising a seal around the internal cavity, the seal for compression against the roof when the mounting device is secured to the roof. 6. The mounting device of claim 1 , wherein, when the fastener is received by the opening and the mounting device is secured to the roof, the fastener is seated against the base. 7. A mounting device comprising: a base including a top, an opposed bottom, and a guide on the base, the guide for holding and guiding support hardware in linear movement along a length of the guide; an internal cavity within the base; an opening formed through the base for receiving a fastener, the opening joined in communication with the internal cavity and located adjacent a first side of the guide such that the fastener, when applied to the opening, extends through the opening and the internal cavity; a port via which a sealant is injectable, the port located on a second side of the guide opposite the first side; and a seal around the internal cavity, the seal for compression against a roof when the mounting device is secured to the roof and wherein the guide extends beyond the seal. 8. The mounting device of claim 7 , wherein: the internal cavity has an internal dimension parallel to the length of the guide; and the internal dimension of the internal cavity is less than the length of the guide. 9. The mounting device of claim 7 , further comprising a vent formed through the base and in communication with the internal cavity. 10. The mounting device of claim 9 , wherein the port and the vent flank the opening. 11. The mounting device of claim 10 , further comprising sealant guides disposed between the port and the vent. 12. The mounting device of claim 7 , wherein, when the fastener is received by the opening and the mounting device is secured to the roof, the fastener is seated against the top of the base. 13. A mounting device comprising: a base including an internal cavity, and a guide on the base; an opening through the base for receiving a fastener, the opening in communication with the internal cavity and located adjacent a first side of the guide; and a port via which a sealant is injectable, the port located on a second side of the guide opposite the first side; wherein: the base has a width dimension, the internal cavity has a dimension parallel to the width dimension of the base, and the width dimension is more than the dimension of the internal cavity. 14. The mounting device of claim 13 , wherein the guide is configured to hold and guide support hardware in linear movement along the length of the guide. 15. The mounting device of claim 13 , further comprising a vent formed through the base and in communication with the internal cavity. 16. The mounting device of claim 15 , wherein the port and the vent flank the opening. 17. The mounting device of claim 16 , further comprising sealant guides disposed between the port and the vent. 18. The mounting device of claim 13 , wherein, when the fastener is received by the opening and the mounting device is secured to a roof, the fastener is seated against the base. 19. The mounting device of claim 13 , further comprising a seal around the internal cavity, the seal for compression against a roof when the mounting device is secured to the roof. 20. A mounting device comprising: a base having an open bottom, an inner surface, and an internal cavity bound by the inner surface of the base, wherein the open bottom is in communication with the internal cavity; a guide on the base, wherein the guide has a length, and is configured to receive, slide, and secure support hardware along the length of the guide, and a first side of the guide located adjacent the open bottom; a port via which a sealant is injectable, the port located on a second side of the guide opposite the first side; and the open bottom of the base has a dimension parallel to the length of the guide, the dimension being less than the length. 21. The mounting device of claim 20 , wherein the guide includes a pair of vertical members that are contiguous with the internal cavity, and an aperture is formed between the pair of vertical members. 22. The mounting device of claim 1 , wherein the guide includes a pair of vertical members that are contiguous with the internal cavity, and an aperture is formed between the pair of vertical members. 23. The mounting device of claim 7 , wherein the guide includes a pair of vertical members that are contiguous with the internal cavity, and an aperture is formed between the pair of vertical members. 24. The mounting device of claim 13 , wherein the guide includes a pair of vertical members that are contiguous with the internal cavity, and an aperture is formed between the pair of vertical members.
