Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The need for a spray container and detergent composition, which exhibits less dribbling of the detergent composition when applied to inclined surfaces, and a higher fraction of the detergent composition contacting the surface after spraying, while also reducing nozzle spitting and improving spray visibility on the treated surface, is met by formulating the composition using a long chain polymer.

What is claimed is: 1. A container comprising a spray applicator, wherein the container comprises a detergent composition, the detergent composition comprising: (a) from 0.25% to 0.75% of an amine oxide by weight of the detergent composition, wherein the amine oxide has formula 1: R 1 R 2 R 3 NO, wherein R 1 is a hydrocarbon chain comprising from 8 to 16 carbon atoms, R 2 is a hydrocarbon chain comprising from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R 3 is a hydrocarbon chain comprising from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; (b) from 0.5% to 10% of an organic solvent by weight of the detergent composition, wherein the organic solvent is selected from the group consisting of aminoalcohols, glycol ether solvents having formula 2: R 1 O(R 2 O) n R 3 , wherein R 1 comprises a linear or branched C 4 , C 5 or C 6 alkyl: R 2 comprises ethyl or isopropyl: R 3 comprises hydrogen or methyl; and n ranges from 1 to 3, glycol ether solvents having formula 3: R 4 O(R 5 O) m R 6 , wherein: R 4 comprises n-propyl or isopropyl: R 5 comprises isopropyl; R 6 comprises hydrogen or methyl: and m ranges from 1 to 3, and mixtures thereof; (c) from 0.01% to 0.5% of xanthan gum by weight of the detergent composition; and (d) from 0.0001% to 0.01% of a linear polymer by weight of the detergent composition, wherein: the linear polymer has a weight average molecular weight of from 500,000 Daltons to 1,250,000 Daltons, the linear polymer is nonionic, and the linear polymer comprises monomers of ethylene glycol at a level of greater than 20 mol %. 2. The container according to claim 1 , wherein in the detergent composition, the linear polymer further comprises monomers of propylene glycol. 3. The container according to claim 2 , wherein in the detergent composition, the linear polymer comprises monomers of propylene glycol at a level of greater than 20 mol %. 4. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the linear polymer is a homopolymer. 5. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the detergent composition further comprises a surfactant system, wherein the surfactant system is present at a level of from 0.1% to 3.0% by weight of the detergent composition. 6. The container according to claim 5 , wherein the surfactant system comprises an alkoxylated nonionic surfactant. 7. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the detergent composition comprises from 0.85% to 5.0% of the organic solvent by weight of the detergent composition. 8. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the detergent composition has a pH of greater than 7.0, when measured on the neat composition, at 25° C. 9. A method of treating a hard surface, wherein the method comprises a step of spraying the hard surface using the container comprising the detergent composition according to claim 1 , wherein the spray applicator comprises: a. a nozzle orifice having a diameter of from 0.15 mm to 0.40 mm; and b. pressure regulation such that the spray is applied with a precompression of from 250 kPa to 650 kPa. 10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the spray applicator delivers a spray angle of greater than 30°. 11. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the detergent composition is characterized by a mean droplet size of from 120 to 180 microns when sprayed from the spray applicator.
