A cutting insert configured to couple to a pipe machining apparatus is provided and includes a first cutting edge and a second cutting edge opposite the first cutting edge. A pipe cutting assembly is provided and includes a first base, a second base separate from the first base, and a cutting insert interchangeably couplable to the first base and the second base to perform a first cut with the cutting insert coupled to the first base and a second cut with the cutting insert coupled to the second base. A pipe machining apparatus is provided and includes a tool support, a first cutting tool base and a second cutting tool base interchangeably coupled to the tool support, and a cutting insert interchangeably coupled to the first cutting tool base and the second cutting tool base.

The invention claimed is: 1. A pipe cutting assembly for cutting a pipe comprising: a circular frame comprising a circular frame outer surface comprising a first outer diameter; a clamp directly attached to the circular frame outer surface, the clamp configured to secure the circular frame to the pipe; a circular tool carrier comprising a circular tool carrier outer surface comprising a second outer diameter smaller than the first outer diameter, the tool carrier rotatably coupled to and disposed completely within an inner aperture of the frame in concentric alignment with the frame, the tool carrier rotatable relative to the frame around an axis; a tool support coupled to and rotatable with the tool carrier relative to the frame around the axis; a first base made of a first single piece of material, the first base comprising a first base engagement surface and a first coupling aperture; a second base made of a second single piece of material, the second base comprising a second base engagement surface having a different angular orientation than the first base engagement surface of the first base relative to a longitudinal axis of the respective first and second bases, and a second coupling aperture; a cutting insert comprising an insert aperture and first, second, third, and fourth edges, the first and second edges opposed to one another, and the third and fourth edges opposed to one another, the first edge comprising a first cutting edge; and a coupling member; wherein in a first configuration the second base is detached from the tool support while the first base is directly attached to the tool support and rotatable around the axis with the tool support, the coupling member is inserted into the insert aperture of the cutting insert and the first coupling aperture of the first base securing the cutting insert to the first base with the second edge of the cutting insert directly abutted against the first base engagement surface of the first base in parallel alignment, while the first, third, and fourth edges of the cutting insert do not contact any retaining member; wherein in a second configuration the first base is detached from the tool support while the second base is directly attached to the tool support and rotatable around the axis with the tool support, the coupling member is inserted into the insert aperture of the cutting insert and the second coupling aperture of the second base securing the cutting insert to the second base with the second edge of the cutting insert directly abutted against the second base engagement surface of the second base in parallel alignment, while the first, third, and fourth edges of the cutting insert do not contact any retaining member; the first cutting edge of the cutting insert oriented at different cutting angles in the first and second configurations. 2. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cutting insert is in a parallelogram shape. 3. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second edge of the cutting insert comprises a second cutting edge. 4. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 3 , wherein in a third configuration the second base is detached from the tool support while the first base is directly attached to the tool support and rotatable around the axis with the tool support, the coupling member is inserted into the insert aperture of the cutting insert and the first coupling aperture of the first base securing the cutting insert to the first base with the first cutting edge of the cutting insert directly abutted against the first base engagement surface of the first base in parallel alignment, while the second, third, and fourth edges of the cutting insert do not contact any retaining member. 5. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 4 , wherein in a fourth configuration the first base is detached from the tool support while the second base is directly attached to the tool support and rotatable around the axis with the tool support, the coupling member is inserted into the insert aperture of the cutting insert and the second coupling aperture of the second base securing the cutting insert to the second base with the first cutting edge of the cutting insert directly abutted against the second base engagement surface of the second base in parallel alignment, while the second, third, and fourth edges of the cutting insert do not contact any retaining member. 6. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 5 , wherein the second cutting edge of the cutting insert is oriented at different cutting angles in the third and fourth configurations. 7. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first base engagement surface of the first base extends linearly from a first exterior surface of the first base to a second exterior surface of the first base. 8. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 7 , wherein the second base engagement surface of the second base extends linearly from a first exterior surface of the second base to a second exterior surface of the second base. 9. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the clamp extends through an opening in the circular frame outer surface into the inner aperture of the frame. 10. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a column directly attached to the circular frame outer surface, the column housing a gear train, the gear train coupled to a motor, the motor configured to rotate the tool carrier relative to the frame through the gear train. 11. The pipe cutting assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of the coupling member, the first base comprising a plurality of the first coupling aperture, the second base comprising a plurality of the second coupling aperture, the cutting insert comprising a plurality of the aperture, in the first configuration each of the coupling members is inserted into a respective one of the insert apertures of the cutting insert and a respective one of the first coupling apertures of the first base, and in the second configuration each of the coupling members is inserted into a respective one of the insert apertures of the cutting insert and a respective one of the second coupling apertures of the second base.
