What is claimed is: 1. A method for packaging articles to be transported, wherein the method comprises the following steps: a) preparing at least one pallet, wherein the pallet comprises a generally planar base plate; b) placing at least one article to be transported directly onto either the base plate or a foil-shaped intermediate element that is situated on the base plate; c) providing a transport box that is open on sides both toward and opposite the base plate over the at least one article to be transported, wherein the transport box is placed on the base plate in such a manner that the transport box together with the base plate forms an interior of a transport packaging unit which receives the at least one article to be transported; d) inserting, through the open side of the transport box that is opposite the base plate, at least one spacer into the interior between the at least one article to be transported and at least one inside wall of the transport box; e) closing the open side of the transport box that is opposite the base plate after inserting the at least one spacer; and f) fixing the transport box on the base plate with at least one fastening element. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transport box is placed onto the base plate in the form of a sleeve or collar. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transport box is placed onto the base plate so as to be flush with the sides of the base plate. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base plate is configured to be liquid-tight. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base plate is fixed to said pallet with fastening elements that enable the base plate to be liquid-tight. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base plate is resistant to puncture. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the base plate has a puncture resistance of at least 15 J. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fastening element is a packing strip. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transport box is pressed onto the base plate by said at least one fastening element. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transport box further comprises folding flaps and the open side is closed by folding said folding flaps over said open side. 11. The method of claim 10 , wherein after the open side is closed, the open side is secured by applying adhesive tape. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein in method step b) the at least one article to be transported is placed onto the base plate in such a manner that in at least one direction in space there is a spacing of between 10 mm and 200 mm between the at least one article to be transported and at least one inside wall of the transport box. 13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one article to be transported includes hazardous materials. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the hazardous materials are selected from the group consisting of pharmaceutical materials, diagnostic materials and medical materials. 15. The method of claim 1 further comprising inserting an intermediate element between said base plate and said at least one article to be transported. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein said intermediate element comprises at least one layer of paper, plastic film, or both.
