A mold insert has at least one filament cavity and a stack of at least a first and second insert plates, wherein the first plate has a front face that closely abuts a front face of the second insert plate. A portion of the a filament cavity is provided in at least one of the front faces of the first and second insert plates such that the filament cavity is open at a top surface of the mold insert but does not extend to a bottom surface of the mold insert. A venting cavity is provided in the same front face of the insert plate in which the portion of the at least one filament cavity is provided. The venting cavity, which is in air-conducting connection with the blind-hole end of the filament cavity, has a depth between 1 μm and 20 μm. A method of manufacturing the mold insert includes providing first and second insert plates, forming a portion of a filament cavity into at least one of the front faces of the insert plates, forming a venting cavity into the front face with the filament cavity, and bringing the front faces of the plates into close abutment to form a filament cavity.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of manufacturing a mold insert for injection compression molding of a unitary brush head having a base and filaments extending therefrom, the method comprising: providing at least a first insert plate and a second insert plate, each having a top surface, a bottom surface opposite to the top surface, and at least one front face extending between the top and bottom surfaces; forming a plurality of filament cavities in at least one of the front faces of the first and second insert plates, the filament cavities being open at the top surface of the insert plate and terminate with a plurality of blind-holes at the bottom surface of the insert plate so that the filament cavities do not extend through the bottom surface of the insert plate; forming a venting cavity having a depth of from 1 μm to 20 μm into the front face, the venting cavity being in air-conducting connection with the plurality of blind-holes; wherein the venting cavity comprises a plurality of stopper elements provided to prevent deformation of the insert plates during molding when the insert plates are under pressure; forming a plurality of venting channels connecting the venting cavity to an area outside the insert plate; and bringing the front faces of the first and second insert plates into close abutment so that at least one filament cavity is formed. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of forming the plurality of filament cavities comprises using technology selected from the group consisting of PECM technology, laser ablation technology, and ultra-short pulsed laser ablation technology. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of forming the plurality of filament cavities comprises forming the blind-hole end of the filament cavity with a diameter of from 5 μm to 40 μm, and wherein the depth of the venting cavity is smaller than the diameter of the filament cavity at its blind-hole end. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of providing the at least first and second insert plates comprises providing at least three insert plates, each having at least one front face, wherein the at least three insert plates include a first insert end plate, a second insert end plate, and at least one center insert plate. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of providing the at least first and second insert plates comprises providing at least one of the insert plates having a shape selected from the group consisting of an essentially hollow cylinder-like shape, an essentially hollow frustum-like shape, and an essentially hollow cone-like shape. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of forming a venting cavity comprises forming the venting cavity having a depth of from 2 μm to 10 μm. 7. The method of claim 3 , wherein the step of forming the plurality of filament cavities comprises forming the blind hole end of each of the filament cavities, the blind hole having a diameter of from 5 μm to 20 μm. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of providing the at least first and second insert plates comprises providing the insert plates having a semicircular shape. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of providing the at least first and second insert plates comprises providing the insert plates having a ring-like shape and stacked in abutting relationship with one another to form the plurality of filament cavities. 10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the filament cavities are arranged symmetrically in the stacked insert plates. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of forming a venting cavity comprises arranging the plurality of stopper elements in the venting cavity so that each of the stopper elements is positioned intermediate any two of the blind-hole ends that are mutually adjacent. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of forming a venting cavity comprises forming the venting cavity that is an essentially planar structure having a width of between 500 micrometer to 50 millimeter. 13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of providing at least a first insert plate and a second insert plate comprises providing at least three insert plates, including a first end plate, a second end plate, and at least one center plate sandwiched between the first and second end plates and having two mutually opposite front faces in close abutment with the front faces of the first and second end plates. 14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the at least one center plate has a thickness of from 0.5 mm to 5.0 mm. 15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the at least one center plate has a thickness of from 0.7 mm to 2.0 mm. 16. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of forming a plurality of filament cavities comprises forming each of the filaments tapering towards its blind-hole end at an angle of between 0.1 degrees and 1.0 degrees over at least about half the length of the filament cavity. 17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of providing at least a first insert plate and a second insert plate comprises providing the insert plates having an essentially hollow shape selected from the group consisting of a cylinder-like shape, a frustum-like shape, and a cone-like shape.
