Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A prosthetic connector system for use with a prosthetic socket having a distal end includes a plate defining a plurality of holes and attachable to the distal end of the prosthetic socket. A component is removably attachable to the plate via the plurality of holes and arranged to connect a prosthesis to the prosthetic socket. The plate defines an outer periphery having an asymmetrical configuration contoured to substantially correspond to at least a portion of the component when the component is attached to the plate via at least some of the holes.

The invention claimed is: 1. A prosthetic connector system for use with a prosthetic socket having a distal end, the prosthetic connector system comprising: a monolithic and homogenous plate defining at least two pairs of holes and attachable to the distal end of the prosthetic socket; a component removably attachable to the plate via the at least two pairs of holes and arranged for connecting a prosthesis to the prosthetic socket, wherein the plate defines an outer periphery forming a predetermined asymmetrical configuration contoured to substantially correspond to at least a portion of the component when the component is selectively attached to the plate by one pair of said at least two pairs of holes, wherein the plate defines an attachment surface having a planar profile bounded by the outer periphery with said predetermined asymmetrical configuration; wherein the plate is positionable in at least first and second positions by rotating the plate in a direction normal to the planar profile of the plate, the at least two pairs of holes providing at least four orientations for the component relative to the distal end of the prosthetic socket among the first and second positions; wherein the said at least two pairs of holes includes a central pair of holes arranged to provide a single position for the component relative to the distal end of the prosthetic socket; wherein said at least two pairs of holes also includes a first pair of holes, and wherein a first offset indicator is associated with the first pair of holes, the first offset indicator is arranged to indicate a position of the first pair of holes offset a first distance from the central pair of holes in first and second directions perpendicular to one another; wherein the predetermined asymmetrical configuration of the outer periphery is fixed and unchangeable, and the predetermined asymmetrical configuration comprises a plurality of defined sections having convexly curved contours, at least some of the plurality of sections having different lengths; wherein the plurality of sections include a first section and a second section adjacent the first section, the first section extending radially beyond the second section. 2. The prosthetic connector system of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined asymmetrical configuration of the outer periphery comprises a base section having a rounded rectangular contour extending between at least two of the sections. 3. The prosthetic connection system of claim 1 , wherein a length of the first section is greater than a length of the second section. 4. The prosthetic connection system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of sections includes a third section adjacent to the second section, the third section protruding radially beyond the second section. 5. The prosthetic connection system of claim 4 , wherein a length of the third section is greater than a length of the second section. 6. The prosthetic connector system of claim 5 , wherein the length of the third section and the second section are different. 7. The prosthetic connector system of claim 1 , wherein at least some of the convexly curved contours are arranged to substantially fit and support an outer diameter of the component when the component is attached to the plate by said one pair of said at least two pairs of holes. 8. The prosthetic connector system of claim 7 , wherein the said one pair of said at least two pairs of holes is arranged to provide four different positions for the component relative to the distal end of the prosthetic socket when the plate is in four different orientations on the distal end of the prosthetic socket. 9. The prosthetic connector system of claim 1 , wherein the component comprises a prosthetic adaptor defining a pair of attachment holes arranged for providing an amount of rotational adjustment between the prosthetic adaptor and the plate. 10. The prosthetic connector system of claim 9 , wherein the attachment holes have an elliptical configuration. 11. The prosthetic connector system of claim 1 , wherein the component comprises a female prosthetic adaptor. 12. A prosthetic connector system for use with a prosthetic socket having a distal end, the prosthetic connector system comprising: a monolithic and homogenous plate defining a plurality of holes and attachable to the distal end of the prosthetic socket; a prosthetic adaptor removably attachable to the plate via the holes and arranged for connecting a prosthesis to the prosthetic socket, wherein the plate defines an outer periphery forming a predetermined asymmetrical configuration comprising a plurality of convexly curved contours arranged to substantially correspond to at least a portion of the prosthetic adaptor when the prosthetic adaptor is attached to the plate via at least some of the holes; wherein the plurality of holes includes six pairs of holes arranged to provide twenty one different positions for the prosthetic adaptor relative to the distal end of the prosthetic socket when the plate is in four different orientations on the distal end of the prosthetic socket; wherein the plate defines a fixed and unchangeable outer periphery forming the predetermined asymmetrical configuration such that the outer periphery comprises a plurality of sections having convexly curved contours, at least some of the plurality of sections having different lengths; wherein the plurality of sections include a first section and a second section adjacent the first section, the first section extending radially beyond the second section.
