Official abstract text for this publication.
A transport arrangement system operates to receive a transport request from a user, and to make a selection of a vehicle type for the user based at least in part on a set of criteria associated with the transport request or user information. For example, the determination of whether an autonomous vehicle is to be provided can be based at least in part on the destination specified with the transport request.

What is claimed is: 1. A computer system for arranging transport, the computer system comprising: a memory that stores a set of instructions; one or more processors which use the set of instructions to: obtain data associated with a transport request, the transport request indicating a service location for a transport service; determine a plurality of candidate vehicles to service the transport request, the plurality of candidate vehicles including one or more human-driven vehicles and one or more autonomous vehicles; in response to obtaining the data associated with the transport request, determine a second location at which a particular autonomous vehicle can travel to fulfill the transport request as opposed to the service location, the particular autonomous vehicle being included in the plurality of candidate vehicles; determine a cost metric based on a deviation of the particular autonomous vehicle to the second location as compared to the service location; and in response to determining that the cost metric satisfies a criterion associated with the transport request, dispatch the particular autonomous vehicle to fulfill the transport request. 2. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the data associated with the transport request are received from a mobile computing device of a user. 3. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the service location is a pick-up location or a drop-off location for a user. 4. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the cost metric is determined based on one or more cost parameters, including at least one of a monetary parameter or a timing parameter. 5. The computer system of claim 4 , wherein the timing parameter includes an amount of additional time estimated to complete the transport service using the second location compared to the service location included in the transport request. 6. The computer system of claim 4 , wherein the deviation to the service location associated with the particular autonomous vehicle satisfies the cost metric upon the computer system determining that the timing parameter does not exceed a threshold value. 7. The computer system of claim 4 , wherein the monetary parameter includes a price or service charge to a user to fulfill the transport request. 8. The computer system of claim 4 , wherein the monetary parameter includes an opportunity cost for the particular autonomous vehicle to fulfill the transport request. 9. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the computer system determines the second location based on one or more limitations in the particular autonomous vehicle's capability of reaching the service location. 10. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the computer system determines variations to the service location for a plurality of autonomous vehicles and selects the particular autonomous vehicle from the plurality of autonomous vehicles. 11. A method for arranging transport, the method being implemented by one or more processors of a computing system and comprising: obtaining data associated with a transport request, the transport request indicating a service location for a transport service; determining a plurality of candidate vehicles to service the transport request, the plurality of candidate vehicles including one or more human-driven vehicles and one or more autonomous vehicles; in response to obtaining the data associated with the transport request, determining a second location at which a particular autonomous vehicle can travel to fulfill the transport request as opposed to the service location, the particular autonomous vehicle being included in the plurality of candidate vehicles; determining a cost metric based on a deviation of the particular autonomous vehicle to the second location as compared to the service location; and in response to determining that the cost metric satisfies a criterion associated with the transport request, dispatching the particular autonomous vehicle to fulfill the transport request. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the data associated with the transport request are received from a mobile computing device of a user. 13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the service location is a pick-up location or a drop-off location for a user. 14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the cost metric is determined based on one or more cost parameters, including at least one of a monetary parameter or a timing parameter. 15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the timing parameter includes an amount of additional time estimated to complete the transport service using the second compared to the service location included in the transport request. 16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the deviation to the service location associated with the particular autonomous vehicle satisfies the cost metric upon the computer system determining that the timing parameter does not exceed a threshold value. 17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the monetary parameter includes a price or service charge to a user to fulfill the transport request. 18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the monetary parameter includes an opportunity cost for the particular autonomous vehicle to fulfill the transport request. 19. The method of claim 11 , wherein the computer system determines the second location based on one or more limitations in the particular autonomous vehicle's capability of reaching the service location. 20. A non-transitory computer-readable medium that stores instructions, which when executed by one or more processors of a computer system, cause the computer system to perform operations that comprise: obtaining data associated with a transport request, the transport request indicating a service location for a transport service; determining a plurality of candidate vehicles to service the transport request, the plurality of candidate vehicles including one or more human-driven vehicles and one or more autonomous vehicles; in response to obtaining the data associated with the transport request, determining a second location at which a particular autonomous vehicle can travel to fulfill the transport request, the particular autonomous vehicle being included in the plurality of candidate vehicles; determining a cost metric based on a deviation of the particular autonomous vehicle to the second location as compared to the service location; and in response to determining that the cost metric satisfies a criterion associated with the transport request, dispatching the particular autonomous vehicle to fulfill the transport request.
