Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A sprinkler assembly includes a body defining an inlet, an outlet, and a fluid passage extending along a longitudinal axis between the inlet and the outlet. A guide pin aperture is defined by at least one of the body or a bushing coupled to the body. The sprinkler assembly further includes a deflector slidably coupled to the body. The deflector includes a deflector body coupled to a guide pin. The guide pin includes a shaft portion extending through the guide pin aperture and a shoulder that is wider than the shaft portion and configured to engage at least one of the body or the bushing to limit movement of the deflector body away from the body.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A sprinkler assembly, comprising: a body defining an inlet, an outlet, and a fluid passage extending along a longitudinal axis between the inlet and the outlet, wherein a guide pin aperture is defined by at least one of the body or a bushing coupled to the body, the guide pin aperture elongated in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and comprising an entry section in the plane, a holding section in the plane, and a neck section in the plane between the entry section and the holding section such that the holding section is connected with the entry section; a deflector slidably coupled to the body, the deflector including a deflector body coupled to a guide pin, wherein the guide pin includes: a shaft portion extending through the guide pin aperture; and a shoulder that is wider than the shaft portion and configured to engage at least one of the body or the bushing to limit movement of the deflector body away from the body, the entry section sized to receive the shoulder therethrough, the holding section sized to prevent movement of the shoulder therethrough, the neck portion having a lesser width than a diameter of the shaft portion. 2. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a blocking pin positioned within the entry section and configured to limit movement of the guide pin from the holding section into the entry section. 3. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , wherein the deflector further includes a second guide pin coupled to the deflector body and extending through a second guide pin aperture defined by the body. 4. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , wherein the entry section, the holding section, and the second guide pin aperture are substantially centered about a circumference of a circle that is centered about the longitudinal axis. 5. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , wherein a width of the shaft portion increases as the shaft extends toward the shoulder. 6. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a cover plate assembly including: a retaining ring defining a receiving passage configured to receive the body; a series of protrusions coupled to the retaining ring and biased to extend into the receiving passage, wherein the protrusions engage the body to couple the body to the retaining ring; and a cover plate coupled to the retaining ring, wherein the cover plate is configured to decouple from the retaining ring in response to the cover plate assembly exceeding a threshold temperature. 7. The sprinkler assembly of claim 6 , wherein the body has a substantially cylindrical outer surface that is received within the receiving passage, wherein the protrusions are elongated in a longitudinal direction, and wherein the protrusions engage the substantially cylindrical outer surface of the body to couple the body to the retaining ring. 8. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a protective cap selectively coupled to the body, the protective cap including: a main body defining a recess configured to receive the body; a series of retention protrusions coupled to the main body and extending into the recess, wherein the retention protrusions are configured to engage the body to resist longitudinal movement of the protective cap relative to the body; wherein the main body is configured to engage the deflector to limit longitudinal movement of the deflector relative to the body when the protective cap is coupled to the body. 9. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , comprising: a button coupled with the body; and a pair of lever arms coupled with the button. 10. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , comprising: a first section of the body defines the inlet; and a second section of the body defines the guide pin aperture, the second section extends further outward from the longitudinal axis than the first section. 11. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , comprising: the fluid passage decreases in cross-sectional area along a first portion extending from the inlet, and increases in cross-sectional area from the first portion along a second portion extending towards the outlet. 12. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , comprising: the body is made from a polymeric material. 13. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , comprising: the deflector body is a flat member. 14. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , comprising: the guide pin aperture is a first guide pin aperture and the guide pin is a first guide pin, the body defining a second guide pin aperture to receive a second guide pin, the second guide pin coupled with the deflector body. 15. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , comprising: a first section of the body defines the inlet; and a second section of the body defines the guide pin aperture, the second section comprising two disk-shaped members and a pair of supports extending between the disk-shaped members. 16. The sprinkler assembly of claim 1 , comprising: the blocking pin is annular and has a slit.
