A fiber cement material formulation comprising a cementitious binder, a siliceous material, fiber, alumina trihydrate and a bifunctional low density additive wherein the bifunctional low density additive comprises any one or more of diatomaceous earth, recycled autoclave fiber cement dust or cellulose dust. The fiber cement material formulation optionally further comprises a secondary low density additive which may be perlite. In some embodiments, a fiber cement article manufactured from the fiber cement material formulation comprises a density of approximately 1.1 g/cm3 or below.

What is claimed is: 1. A fiber cement material formulation comprising: a cementitious binder and a siliceous material, wherein the cementitious binder and siliceous material comprise between 60 wt % and 85 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation, and wherein the cementitious binder comprises Portland cement, and wherein the siliceous material comprises silica having a surface area between 300 and 700 m 2 /kg; fiber, wherein the fiber comprises between 6 wt % and 12 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation, wherein the fiber comprises bleached cellulose fiber, the bleached cellulose fiber having a kappa number of between 0 and 5 by TAPPI method T236; alumina trihydrate, wherein the alumina trihydrate comprises between 1 wt % and 5 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; a bifunctional low density additive, the bifunctional low density additive comprising diatomaceous earth, wherein the diatomaceous earth comprises at least 70% amorphous silica and a tapped bulk density of between 0.3 and 0.6 g/cm 3 , and wherein the diatomaceous earth comprises between 2 wt % and 10 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; and a secondary low density additive, wherein the secondary low density additive comprises perlite, and wherein the perlite comprises between 2 wt % and 10 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; wherein a ratio of the perlite to the diatomaceous earth is between 1:0.5 and 1:2. 2. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 1 , wherein the diatomaceous earth comprises between 4 wt % and 6 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 3. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 1 , wherein the perlite comprises between 4 wt % and 8 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 4. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 1 , wherein the fiber comprises between 8 wt % and 10 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 5. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 1 , wherein the cementitious binder comprises between 35 wt % and 40 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 6. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 1 , wherein the siliceous material comprises between 40 wt % and 45 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 7. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 1 , wherein the silica is silica 200 mesh, and wherein the surface area is between 350 and 410 m 2 /kg. 8. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 1 , wherein a ratio of the siliceous material to the cementitious binder is between 1:0.5 and 1:1.5. 9. A fiber cement material formulation comprising: a cementitious binder and a siliceous material, wherein the cementitious binder and siliceous material comprise between 60 wt % and 85 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; fiber, wherein the fiber comprises between 6 wt % and 12 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation, wherein the fiber comprises cellulose fiber; alumina trihydrate, wherein the alumina trihydrate comprises between 1 wt % and 5 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; a bifunctional low density additive, the bifunctional low density additive comprising diatomaceous earth, wherein the diatomaceous earth comprises between 2 wt % and 10 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; and a secondary low density additive, wherein the secondary low density additive comprises perlite, and wherein the perlite comprises between 2 wt % and 10 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; wherein the ratio the perlite to the diatomaceous earth is between 1:0.5 and 1:2. 10. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 9 , wherein the cementitious binder and siliceous material comprise between 70 wt % and 80 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation, and wherein a ratio of the siliceous material to the cementitious binder is between 1:0.5 and 1:1.5. 11. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 9 , wherein the cementitious binder comprises between 35 wt % and 40 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation, and wherein the siliceous material comprises between 40 wt % and 45 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 12. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 9 , wherein the perlite comprises between 4 wt % and 8 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation, and wherein the diatomaceous earth comprises between 4 wt % and 6 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 13. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 9 , wherein the diatomaceous earth comprises at least 70% amorphous silica and a tapped bulk density of between 0.3 and 0.6 g/cm 3 . 14. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 9 , wherein the cellulose fiber comprises bleached cellulose fiber, the bleached cellulose fiber having a kappa number of between 0 and 5 by TAPPI method T236. 15. A fiber cement material formulation comprising: a cementitious binder and a siliceous material, wherein the cementitious binder and siliceous material comprise between 60 wt % and 85 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; fiber, wherein the fiber comprises between 6 wt % and 12 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation, wherein the fiber comprises cellulose fiber; alumina trihydrate, wherein the alumina trihydrate comprises between 1 wt % and 5 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; a bifunctional low density additive, the bifunctional low density additive comprising diatomaceous earth, wherein the diatomaceous earth comprises between 2 wt % and 10 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; and a secondary low density additive, wherein the secondary low density additive comprises perlite, and wherein the perlite comprises between 2 wt % and 10 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 16. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 15 , wherein: the diatomaceous earth comprises between 4 wt % and 8 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; and the perlite comprises between 4 wt % and 8 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 17. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 15 , wherein a ratio of the perlite to the diatomaceous earth is between 1:0.5 and 1:2. 18. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 15 , wherein: the cementitious binder and siliceous material comprise between 70 wt % and 80 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation; and the fiber comprises between 8 wt % and 10 wt % of the fiber cement material formulation. 19. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 15 , wherein the diatomaceous earth comprises at least 70% amorphous silica and a tapped bulk density of between 0.3 and 0.6 g/cm 3 . 20. The fiber cement material formulation of claim 15 , wherein the fiber comprises bleached cellulose fiber.
